HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 2-year-olds

Onemoreforarch - FTS from the hottest barn in the West, Bob Baffert; need not be much to beat these.

Moby Trick - Got bet last time and showed an improved effort; has some speed, expect him to show it.

Long Shot - Premier Image

Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

Winsome Charm - Like the turn back in distance; his better races have all come over the synthetics.

Euroglide - Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano jumps on a live one; been away 10-months, takes blinkers off.

Long Shot - Goldsville

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Michael's Rose - Has run a couple races fast enough to beat these; beware, Neil Drysdale has an uncoupled entry.

Rising Honour - Big rider switch to Garrett Gomez; he's cashed three paychecks, but no world beaters in here.

Long Shot - Girl of Pangaea

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Proud Hillbilly - Was well bet in debut, overlooked in second start; showed a lack of respect for Faiplex racing.

Party Mandate - Good effort in last, repeat puts him right there again; offers good value at 9/2 odds.

Long Shot - Tom Bombadil

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Trueno - Tiny edge in a very difficult heat; many of these don't want to win, which makes it so tough.

Elusive Destiny - Second start off a 16-month hiatus; he has a lot of back class, is clearly the one to beat.

Long Shot - Smokenomore

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $30,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds

Rainbow Goose - Made his debut down the hill a winning one; appears more than capable of repeating that race.

Achak - Ran well at 14/1 chasing the favorite in last; may be better than advertised in his Euro races.

Long Shot - Flashmans Papers

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $40,000, Allowance, 2-year-olds

Connemara - Todd Pletcher brought this colt out for a reason; a warm-up for the Hollywood Futurity next month.

Ranger Heartley - Typical John Sadler claim is getting better and better; figures to set all the fractions.

Long Shot - Mr. Saturdaynight

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Objectified - Hated the dirt at Fairplex in last; his two synthetic races prior are both fast enough to win today.

Country Tough - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like Joel Rosario up.

Long Shot - Glenwick

Best Bet - Objectified (race 8)

Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/8/$41.80; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40

Santa Anita Totals - 424/114/$687.00; Long Shots, 213/34/$359.40; Best Bets, 25/12/$47.20

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #7 Southern Hero (5/2) in race 2 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Stately Victor ran out at Churchill. Stats - 161/119/$909.90
