HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

D C Tapit - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like the turn back in distance.

The Whammer - Logical chalk is 6-of-7 in the money; he's burned a lot of bettor's money, your move.

Long Shot - Notes Prince

Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Mona de Momma - Won with something left in the tank last time; filly has a high ceiling as a stakes sprinter.

Lemon Supreme - Returned from a 2-month hiatus with a sharp effort; big switch to Joel Rosario for the money shot.

Long Shot - Irish Gypsy

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

Nautical Rule - Been away 5-months; waited for harder Oak Tree race versus easier Fairplex assignment.

Olympio's Jewel - Chance to be the speed of the speed from the outside; big class drop can only help him.

Long Shot - Waafi

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Allaboutthecapital - Bob Baffert cull need not be much to win on the class drop; price is aided by Martin Pedroza.

Ringolevio - Another taking a steep class drop; like the Baffert cull, faces the easiest test of his career.

Long Shot - Fortunate Victory

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $26,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Silent Stalk - She is 2-for-2 wins down the hillside turf course; her Del Mar races were not indicative of her talent.

Welken - Like the turn back in distance for this hillside sprint; figures to sit back and fire a fastball.

Long Shot - Pokomoke

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Macias - Completely missed the break in debut; Garrett Gomez rushed him into contention, tired late, has ability.

Via Verde - Logical chalk figures to save all the ground inside; was well meant in debut, improvement likely.

Long Shot - Camp Victory

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Grandpa's Legacy - Figures to see an aggressive early pace; tactical speed to sit a trip and grind it out late.

Coatcheck Girl - Was too aggressive in last and paid the price late; she is more than capable of rebounding.

Long Shot - Dextera

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Word Association - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; her race 2-back wins today.

Heavens a Raging - Carla Gaines had a so-so Del Mar meet; I suspect she'll rebound back in Arcadia.

Long Shot - Brianna Marie

Best Bet - Macias (race 6)

Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$15.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$9.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40

Santa Anita Totals - 33/6/$31.00; Long Shots, 17/2/$17.00; Best Bets, 2/1/$3.40

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #6 Big Rushlet (5/2) in race 7 at Hawthorne. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Starship Angel ran out at Belmont Park. Stats - 141/107/$804.10
