HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Plasma Beam - Second in debut, was flattered when Hiya Silver won next out; clearly the one to beat.
Simple Kind of Man - FTS from Eric Guillot shows all the marks of a runner; watch the tote for clues.
Long Shot - The Whammer
Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Rumba Along - Claimed by Eric Kruljac who hires Rafael Bejarano; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Kilderry - Key will be if there is enough pace for this dead late closer to chase; I don't think so.
Long Shot - Desert Eagle
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship, 2-year-olds
Necessary Evil - Doug O'Neill looks like he has this surrounded; don't expect his uncoupled entry to duel.
Classical Slew - He's won two straight; not sure which O'Neill will be told to take back off the pace.
Long Shot - Grace Upon Grace
Race 4 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Fine Time to Leave - Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano and Mike Mitchell can get it done.
Saint's Crown - Ground saving journey; should maintain value with low percentage jockey and trainer.
Long Shot - Moon O'er Cashel
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, $100,000 Landaluce, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Well Deserved - Unbeaten in two career starts; hasn't won with brilliance, more like determination.
Repo - Chased the favorite in last to no avail; babies can go up or down, could turn the tables.
Long Shot - Ballistic Sue
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Buckatunna - Ran a winning race for this level last time; offers some value with Agapito Delgadillo.
Brian the Brave - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Gomez kills any value.
Long Shot - Orient Emperor
Race 7 - 7 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
No Sweat - Could this be a Delgadillo daily double; has really come to hand since claimed by Jim Kasparoff.
Warren's Pepe - Beaten favorite was looking at No Sweat's behind in last; can turn the table with Bejarano.
Long Shot - Steady Demand
Race 8 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Privalova - Hyped favorite was rude and rank under Rafael Bejarano; has talent, but she must behave better.
Meili - Speedball will provide the target for these; Janet Armstrong is a very underrated trainer.
Long Shot - Surprises Welcomed
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Usurp - Has the advantage of recency and two straight wins; Ron Ellis must still be flying high over Rail Trip.
Silver Stetson Man - Draw a line thru the Fall Highweight and he looks pretty good; been away 7-months.
Long Shot - Sea of Pleasure
Race 10 - 1 1/8th miles, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
Trevor's Clever - Woke up with a nice finish in last; has enough back class where he could repeat the try.
Niccolo Dream - Tepid chalk in a wide open finale; has shown some improvement since claimed by Jim Barnes.
Long Shot - Stylin Cat
Best Bet - Plasma Beam (race 1)
Hollywood Park Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 22/6/$33.00; Long Shots, 10/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals - 839/208/$1,484.80; Long Shots, 418/68/$704.80; Best Bets, 46/19/$83.00
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #6 Talkin About Love (3/1) in race 9 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Separatist ran second at Belmont Park paying $2.70 to place and $2.30 to show. Stats - 100/81/$598.20
