TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Happy Hedger - He's been working super fast, even for these kind of horses; he cost a pricey $75K in a 2-YO in training sale.
Coo Cachoo - This guy cost only $3,500, but like the idea that Tyler Baze agrees to ride; watch the tote board for clues.
Long Shot - Sweet Tigger
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
Street Car - Was flattered when Mythical Power ran second in the Sunland Derby; repeat race could crush these.
Candy for Paseana - Typical baby debut, walked from the gate, found a good stride late; Rafael Bejarano remains loyal.
Long Shot - Gretsky
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
River Echo - Ran miserably in last, but his race two back is fast enough to beat these; pick for forgiving handicappers.
Buck's Bro - Ran OK down the hill in last, but was faster over synthetic surface; Joel Rosario sits for one run.
Long Shot - Draft Choice
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
More Than Music - Goes 2-turns for the first time; slides down the claiming ladder another rung, that has to help.
Ellie L. - Ran a career best race last time and a repeat puts her right there; saves ground and grinds late.
Long Shot - Kind Lady
Race 5 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Rare Nugget - Garrett Gomez goes slumming in this cheap claimer for Mike Mitchell; turns back in distance for this.
Angel Eyed -
Long Shot - Frangipanni
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $30,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Squeeze Me Tight - Been away 2-months since overmatched with O/C $62,500 class; her race two back will beat these.
No Ka Oi - She's changed hands more than Zsa Zsa Gabor with husbands; she still runs consistent races for the class.
Long Shot - Foxy Games
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Belliflore - Was not wound tight for her U.S. debut; mare is also group placed in France and could improve a lot today.
Anabaa's Creation - Group placed mare in France easily has the class; the question is does she have the conditioning, yet?
Long Shot - Raiding Party
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Dana Dynamo - Was flattered when Defense King won right back; Bruce Headley barn has been steaming lately.
One Vote - He's had many chances at this level, just can't get over the hump; key for me is Rafael Bejarano rides back.
Long Shot -Papoose La Moose
Best Bet - Street Car (race 2)
Santa Anita Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$35.00; Long Shots, 5/1/$27.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
