OAK TREE AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time noon
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Crash Landing - Beaten favorite turns back in distance; sits a trip and comes grinding fast late.
Kaptain Kordough - Disappointing effort in last; his two races prior are both fast enough to upset.
Long Shot - Mr. Inn Zone
Race 2 - 1 1/2 miles (turf), $50,000 Cal Cup Starter Handicap, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Lockford - Claimed by the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer for this; hires Gomez, talk about a quick ROI.
Trato - He has outrun his odds his whole life; proven grinder will be running on in the stretch.
Long Shot - Carona Time
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, $150,000 Cal Cup Matron Handicap, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Bai and Bai - She prepped perfectly for this over at Fairplex; tactical speed to control the pace.
Stroppy - She is better when taken back and relaxed to make one run; big rider switch to Tyler Baze.
Long Shot - Famous Ruby
Race 4 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $100,000 Cal Cup Distance Handicap, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Distant Victory - Lost her winning streak last time in open company; returns to face her own kind.
Rushen Heat - Another Barry Abrams who summered at Woodbine; controlling speed in this turf marathon.
Long Shot - Warrens Highroller
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, $50,000 Cal Cup Starter Sprint Handicap, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Valiant Effort - Was upset last time by Exceeding n a good try; can sit a perfect stalking trip.
Exceeding - Didn't corner the Fairplex turns in last as a beaten chalk; should relish the big oval.
Long Shot - Moves Like a Cat
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, $125,000 Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Saucey Evening - Had some trouble in the much tougher Del Mar Debutante; much easier task today.
Ten Churros - Last seen in an impressive winner of the Generous Portion; should stretch out OK.
Long Shot - Trash Master
Race 7 - 1 mile, Cal Cup $175,000 Cal Cup Mile Handicap, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Bold Chieftain - Very nice horse proven in open company; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Unusual Suspect - Spent the summer at Woodbine, but this is a nice Cal-bred; defending champion.
Long Shot - Liberian Freighter
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, $150,000 Cal Cup Sprint Handicap, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Partywithlarryz - Race shape really favors a dead late closer; expect a suicidal fast early pace.
Lit'sgoodlookngray - Another who can take back off a hot pace and make one run; beaten chalk in last.
Long Shot - Bro Lo
Race 9 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $150,000 Cal Cup Distaff Handicap, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Tutta Bella - Mare is proven down the hillside turf course; like Gomez and shortening up in distance.
America's Friend - I suspect a cavalry charge to the wire; outside posts are preferred down the hill.
Long Shot - Lightmyfirebaby
Race 10 - 1 1/8th miles, $250,000 Cal Cup Classic Handicap, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Add Heat - Barry Abrams pointed for this race all year; third start off a 5-month can be his best.
Romance Is Diane - Filly facing males, but she's no ordinary filly; faced better in grade 2 stakes.
Long Shot - Top This and That
Race 11 - 1 1/16th miles, $125,000 Cal Cup Juvenile, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Escalon - Exits an open grade 1 stakes to face much softer today; comfort zone facing his own kind.
Star Redeemer - Maidens win 2-YO stakes more than you think; John Sadler colt continues to improve.
Long Shot - Lucky Primo
Best Bet - Bai and Bai (race 3)
