HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Aquicksting - Gets big time class relief from stakes; also is turning back in distance, an angle I like.
Tiffanyspringsroad - Solid improvement last time, now Adam Kitchingman adds blinkers on; Gomez remains.
Long Shot - Walker Rd.
Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
The Usual Q. T. - Lost a dirty head bob at 72-1 odds in debut; won't be near that price, but could improve.
Zephaniah - Reclaimed by Ed Moger, one of the best trainer angles in racing; let's see what he likes about him.
Long Shot - One Perfect Karat
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Harmony Creator - Sliding down the claiming ladder despite decent races; red flag drop for O'Neill.
Bold Cleo - Looks a little cheap at first glance; she is in rare form and can outrun her high odds.
Long Shot - Sweet Spot
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Powerofvoodoo - Tepid looking chalk except that Garrett Gomez takes the call for Abrams; need not be much.
Wild Fleece - Similar angle in that a weak looking horse picks up a top rider in Rafael Bejarano; grinding late.
Long Shot - Sweet October
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Zilla - Dead late closer in a race packed with early speed; key is she may inherit the lead in the stretch.
Peppermint Lounge - Of the speedball, she looks like the most legit; was desperate to hold on in last.
Long Shot - La Cocasse
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Warren's R Ready - Appears to be shooting fish in a barrel here; sliding down the claiming ladder to this.
Soldier Betty - Lost all chance at the start last time; her race two back was OK, should improve a lot.
Long Shot - Saint's Crown
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $49,000, Optional claiming $32,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Warrens A P Strike - Don't usually like MSW grads facing winners for the first time; Gomez stays loyal.
Frankelstein - No one claimed him for $16k in a gritty win; double jumped in class, is razor sharp right now.
Long Shot - Antique Avenue
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
A Sassy Fusaichi - Improved a lot facing an easier task at Fairplex; she faces a less that sterling group.
Wicked Sin - Speedby comeback and showed the effects of a long layoff late; tighter today for Brian Koriner.
Long Shot - Silent Smoke
Best Bet - Powerofvoodoo (race 4)
