HORSE RACING
July 3, 2008 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Albacore Bob - Ran second in a Turf Paradise stakes, which shows enough promise to beat these; Pearson is a good trainer.
It's in the Fridge - FTS from the crafty Peter Miller barn; these babies work down at San Luis Rey Downs and ship up ready.
Long Shot - Seven Lucky J's
Race 2 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Bea's Cee - Just graduated last time in a significant effort; a lot of these are commoners stuck in this NW1X condition.
America's Friend - She's a pathetic win prospect at 1-for-30 lifetime; but she fills out a lot of exactas and trifectas.
Long Shot - My Maloof Rocker
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Easter Born - Like the fact he is stretching out around 2-turns off a fast paced sprint; figures to be forwardly placed.
Bob Benoit - Weak favorite in a terrible looking first leg of the pick 6; decent carryover tonight of more than $87k.
Long Shot - Sir Dynamite
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Corvinus - Was closing well last time in a much improved effort; could be overlooked again with bugboy Arambula aboard.
Preachintothechoir - Turns back in distance after a solid 2-turn try; second start off the claim by Gary Stute.
Long Shot - Dark Past
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, $75,000 Ferdinand Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Tissy Fit - As difficult a race as there is in the pick 6, every horse has a shot to win it; lean to the white hot Sadler barn.
Dilemma - Switches back to synthetic surface after some good turf races; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip for the Mig.
Long Shot - Lang Field
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Burnt - Bobby Frankel cull is knocking at the door; surprised no one has claimed her because she has very good pedigree.
Dreams Afleet - Ran fast enough to beat these last time out; if she improves a step she'll be awful tough to handle.
Long Shot - If Not for You
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Within Reason - Speedball should be able to clear the field early; Brian Koriner barn has really heated up of late.
Worchester - Turns back in distance off a 2-turn route; Bobby Frankel horse appears best suited as a late closing sprinter.
Long Shot - T'aint War Sir
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Athenry - The Jorge Periban barn has heated up in the late stages of the Inglewood meet; moves inside from a parking lot post.
Khun Dan - Had no shot last time in a quick paced sprint; should improve in a tepid paced 2-turn route full of slowpokes.
Long Shot - Maj. Trouble
Best Bet - Burnt (race 6)
Hollywood Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$43.00; Long Shots, 8/1/$12.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 829/194/$1,282.40; Long Shots, 421/40/$409.00; Best Bets, 49/20/$85.60
