HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Heaven Tonight - Huge rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot; might have been too close to the pace in last.

Warren's Dreaming - Ran a career best race last time for second; gets a parking lot post, expect Valdivia to take way back.

Long Shot - Pithy Gal

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Miss Dixie Dancer - Can you envision a Bejarano daily double, what a shock; unbeaten filly is slotted in a reasonable spot.

Steal My Charm - Another maiden claiming graduate, they liked her enough to run in a stakes as a maiden; OK tactical speed.

Long Shot - Enjoy to the World

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

Solo Performance - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like that he is exiting a key race.

Kaffeinator - Second best last time as an overwhelming 3/5 odds favorite; switch to Garrett Gomez, which is a lateral move.

Long Shot - Vital Force

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up

Frankelstein - Old back class animal is sliding down the claiming ladder for Marty Jones; may have one more good one left.

Natural Touch - Claimed by Jack Carava and spotted nicely for a quick ROI; has no speed so he'll have to come from the clouds.

Long Shot - Souvenir Slew

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Victory Joe - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; his last two races are fast enough to win.

Indianski - Returns from a 5-month freshening; has been working well up at Hollywood, is a classier sort than most in here.

Long Shot - One Track Mind

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Sheza Maneater - Baffert filly should spurt to the lead with blinkers on; the turf rail is out 14 feet, she's the one to catch.

Tripped the Light - Second start off the claim by Jerry Hollendorfer can show more improvement; big rider switch to Bejarano.

Long Shot - Moscow Rising

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Unusual Heather - Broke her MSW in a solid key race; Joel Rosario had choices and lands here, may be a real good one.

Quisiana - Ran great in the Fleet Treat off a 7-month hiatus and one maiden claiming win; my lone fear is she will bounce.

Long Shot - Red Tomatoes

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Jane Doe - Leap of faith that Garrett Gomez is riding the worst race on the card for a reason; he just won 2 $1-million races.

Gentlemen's Crown - Ron McAnally takes the blinkers off for this; expect Joe Talamo to rate her off the pace and make one run.

Long Shot - Marwah

Best Bet - Miss Dixie Dancer (race 2)

Del Mar Sunday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 22/7/$46.80; Long Shots, 10/2/$27.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$6.20

Del Mar Totals - 564/140/$947.20; Long Shots, 292/41/$520.60; Best Bets, 35/11/$52.00
