TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 4 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Carrie With a C - Red flag move for most trainers, not Jerry Hollendorfer; won for $35k and now is dropped down to $25k.

Belly Button Dawn - Speedball should be able to clear the field early; she offers good value at her 5/1 morning line odds.

Long Shot - Ann's Plan

Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $75,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up

Mr. Napper Tandy - If you're judged by the company you keep, they'll have to beat this guy; class relief from graded stakes.

Dilemma - Tepid chalk in a race where any one of the 5 can win it; like the fact he is reunited with Garret Gomez.

Long Shot - Cheroot

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Salah's Jewels - Ran well last time off a 9-month hiatus; tactical speed to sit a trip, should improve for Marty Jones.

Glory N Thehighest - Ran like a dud last time at 3/5 odds; big rider switch to Tyler Baze and blinkers on, expect better.

Long Shot - Heaven Tonight

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up

Common Trust - Beaten favorite gets his claiming price cut in half today; his race two back is fast enough to crush these.

Johnny High Brite - Takes a plunge in class for Jeff Mullins; his race two back, if repeated, is fast enough to upset.

Long Shot - Refinery

Race 5 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Sarah's Melody - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; showed genuine late punch in debut.

Track Majesty - Did a classic pop and stop in debut; drops in class for Adam Kitchingman, may be a no passing zone field.

Long Shot - Chatty Lulu

Race 6 - 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Carmen - I suspect a wicked fast pace and this is the best closer in the field; claimed by Steve Knapp, ready made winner.

California Flag - Favorite is a speedball in a race with multiple other speedballs; Joe Talamo is good at rating tactics.

Long Shot - Thoughtuknew

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, $100,000 Real Good Deal, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds

Waafi - Abundant speed really sets it up for a closer like this; his best races have come in closing in 1-turn sprints.

Dancing in Silks - Speedball will be tough to handle if right; he'll need to duel others early, it could cost him late.

Long Shot - Lethal Heat

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds

Let'spickupthepace - Beaten favorite takes a big class drop for Mike Mitchell; key for me is Garrett Gomez remains loyal.

Seven Lucky J's - He has to draw in from a parking lot post; has shown enough ability to be a factor if he repeats his last.

Long Shot - My Man Sumo

Best Bet - Carmen (race 6)

Del Mar Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/4/$20.40; Long Shots, 8/2/$18.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
