TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 3:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $37,000, Maiden claiming $80,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Sorry Baby - Speedball draws the rail where she can best utilize her strengths; if they water the track, they'll won't catch her.
To Hot for You - Found her best stride too late in a nice career debut; Bejarano will try to stalk the speed and pass by late.
Long Shot - Sarah's Melody
Race 2 - 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $56,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Bella Dancer - She figures to offer a lot of value as she lost her rider, Garrett Gomez, last time; she has a lot of ability.
Donas Miracle Lane - She's proven to be a fighter on turf or synthetic; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Long Shot - Christiana's Heat
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Chocolate Candy - He looks like a colt who will improve going around 2-turns; Rafael Bejarano must think the same thing.
Joking Sam - Speedy sort in a race full of tortoises; he is the hare and Joel Rosario will take him as far as he can go.
Long Shot - Worth Repeating
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
Twin Turbo - Leap of faith that Garrett Gomez riding for John Sadler is a live dog; he has a ton of back class to rely upon.
Cactus Lighting - He is a taking a class drop from an open claimer to a NW2L condition; this is a weak field he's facing.
Long Shot - Premier Yank
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $37,000, Maiden claiming $80,000, 2-year-olds
Pick to Click - Bob Baffert has a chance to win a couple of races on the card; he takes the blinkers off so he'll rate kinder.
Tiffanyspringsroad - FTS from a very underrated Adam Kitchingman; his babies typically don't need a race, they are ready.
Long Shot - Scorewithcater
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $60,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Smooth and Savvy - Third start off a 3-month hiatus; like that Rafael Bejarano takes the call, he'll ride more aggressively.
El Martillo - Logical chalk has shown good ability on turf; this is another Baffert, among his three live horses today.
Long Shot - Malibu Canyon
Race 7 - 1 mile, $100,000 El Cajon, 3-year-olds
Cherokee Artist - Graham Motion is testing this colt in advance of the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita; a very talented animal.
Slew's Tiznow - Top flight colt has been away 11-months; he may need a race or two to peak, but Doug O'Neill will get there.
Long Shot - Leonides
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Trufflesfromheaven - Was given a test drive on turf around 2-turns; I like the turn back in distance angle, expect better.
Promise Rose - Logical chalk in a wide open race; she has shown good tactical speed to sit where Tyler Baze wants.
Long Shot - Shade of Moonlight
Best Bet - Sorry Baby (race 1)
