HORSE RACING
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Harmony Creator - If I'm Doug O'Neill, I tell Michael Baze to send and control the pace; can save every inch of ground inside.
Guts - Parking lot post at a mile is problematic; Garrett Gomez has a way of saving ground and making the best of the trip.
Long Shot - Wild and Ready
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Sindyfromsantacruz - Mike Mitchell is improving his batting average with FTS this meet; excellent work tab for her debut.
Pinkerbelle - You have a big edge over me seeing the tote board with 11 FTS; has pedigree and shown works to be fairly quick.
Long Shot - Via Veneto
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Mrs. Rocha - Returns off a 7-month hiatus for Carla Gaines; low and behold look who is riding, Garrett Gomez, she'll be live.
Ann's Plan - Weak chalk mainly because someone has to be favored; sliding down the claiming ladder, her last two races stunk.
Long Shot - Startin Fresh
Race 4 - 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $56,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
King of the City - Rail horse ran a couageous second last time; if he can improve a step, he'll be right there again.
Candy Pull - Brice Blanc loves to settle a horse and make one run; solid improvement since joining the Jesus Mendoza stable.
Long Shot - Kbello
Race 5 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Casino Gold - I heard Simon Bray say on TVG that one race experience is worth 6 workouts; Bob Baffert baby should be ready.
Auntgrace - She's been working a long while but Craig Dollase didn't ask for speed until the last work; she could pop on fire.
Long Shot - Alpha Kitten
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Cavanaugh - Is dropping in class from an open $20k to a NW2L $25k; his last 3 starts have shown steady improvement.
Spoils of Excess - Tepid chalk in another wide open race; he's been away 5-months for Bill Spawr, fresh, fits, dangerous?
Long Shot - Rhodine's Kid
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Tactful - Speedball has a parking lot post, but the longer distance may help him clear the field; plays catch me if you can.
Johnny Be Bad - Showed promise when he flew home late after a tardy beginning; suspect there's a nice upside to him.
Long Shot - One More Week
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Lighten Up Rule - This Jeff Mullins filly is a grinder and appears well spotted in here; Bejarano will need to work overtime.
North Rodeo - Logical chalk is stretching out after two good sprints this year; Baffert barn is thawing out from the ice age.
Long Shot - Spinning Yarns
Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), $200,000 Palomar Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Vacare - Christophe Clement has a classy barn and this filly is one of them; she needs a confidence boost in an easier spot.
Kris' Sis - Intrigued that Rafael Bejarano ends up here when he could have ridden others; enough class to fit with these.
Long Shot - Ransom Captive
Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Runondemand - Speedball tactics may be good enough in a slow field; Bejarano will simply go as fast and as far as he can.
Anatolian Gold - He was flattered when Afleets Design won again next out; last time was a breakthrough race for him.
Long Shot - Arabian Cheetah
Best Bet - Tactful (race 7)
Del Mar Friday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/2/$19.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
