HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Scibelli - He has been mixing it up with some good ones, now it's time for him to shine; controlling speed at a route.

Star Time - To say Bob Baffert is having a slow Del Mar is an understatement; colt with tactical speed is stretching out.

Long Shot - Vulcan

Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Flashing Forward - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; was well bet in both career starts.

Rare Ribbon - Had a rough, rank trip last time; John Sadler goes with the ultimate rider switch to Garrett Gomez.

Long Shot - Halo's Clean Sheet

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up

Ramsgate - Been away 14-months, red flag for most, but this is Bobby Frankel; tons of back class and Garrett Gomez too.

Forest Phantom - Chased a superior foe in Barbecue Eddie last time; Gomez didn't beat him up, his race two back can upset.

Long Shot - Exceeding

Race 4 - 1 3/8th miles (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Rather Be Lucky - Been away 4-months, but had been knocking heads with better; underrated Beau Greely can get you a price.

Farleigh House - Trainer Ben Cecil adds blinkers on after 3 in a row frustrating seconds; we'll see if he can halt the trend.

Long Shot - Sir Bell

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

I Am Game - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; draw a line thru the turf route experiment.

A Lil Dumaani - Strong second in last as he appreciated the big class drop, exits a bullet work; slow meet for Martin Garcia.

Long Shot - Tigley

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Princess Susan M - Trainer Peter Miller has his barn ready to go and is spotting horses to win; like the turn back in distance.

Starstruck Kristen - Trainer Bill Morey claimed this filly at Hollywood and has her set to fire; this is one hot barn.

Long Shot - Tootsnmoneybags

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $75,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up

Hyperbaric - No shame chasing Whatsthescript and Daytona in graded stakes; figures to be the shortest price of the meet.

Uffizi - Been freshened a couple months for this easier comeback race; probably didn't expect to see Hyperbaric in here.

Long Shot - Fast and Furious

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Gentlemen's Crown - Tepid chalk is dropping in class after a decent route try; Joe Talamo could lead early or rate a spot or two.

Dreams Afleet - Stretching out in the distance around 2-turns for the first time; like that Vladimir Cerin hires Bejarano.

Long Shot - Greenstone

Best Bet - Hyperbaric (race 7)

Del Mar Sunday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$36.00; Long Shots, 9/1/$8.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Del Mar Totals - 181/42/$350.80; Long Shots, 94/9/$97.60; Best Bets, 11/3/$15.60
