HORSE RACING
June 18, 2008 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Gold Datnoid - Failed miserably off the claim by Frank Monteleone in last; suspect she wakes up today at a square price.
Categorize - Steve Knapp wins a lot of races with big drop down horses like this; her race two back could upset these.
Long Shot - Jazzerin
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
June My Love - May have moved prematurely in last before collapsing late; expect Bejarano to ride with a lot more patience.
Distant Victory - Logical chalk off a good looking debut try; sure to be overbet, Espinoza must save ground from a wide post.
Long Shot - Warrens Highroller
Race 3 - 5 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Golden Rocketship - The race is so inscrutable, I went with 3 fillies taking the big class drop from MSW to maiden claiming.
Keon - Showed a hint of early speed in her debut; like that Joe Talamo remains loyal despite finishing up the racetrack.
Long Shot - Crystal Got Even
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $13,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Trust Nobody - Did everything but win last time in a strong performance; Nakatani saves all the ground and grinds it out late.
Norway House - Consistent sort has cashed many paychecks lately without winning; gets the weight off with bugboy Campos.
Long Shot - Herbie Love
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Mama Luc - Beaten favorite has a good chance to redeem herself here; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip and grind late.
Mud Sweat 'n Tears - Exits a fast paced 1-turn elongated sprint; should enjoy today's slower pace and sit a bit closer.
Long Shot - Sheza Maneater
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Kearns Prints - Brian Koriner colt did a classic pop and stop in debut 7-months ago; like that Rafael Bejarano takes the call.
Honouramongfriends - Was favored in career debut at Del Mar while facing a talented MSW field; Mullins barn has been red hot.
Long Shot - Vulcan
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
No Ka Oi - Reclaimed by Julio Canani, one of the best trainer angles to follow; she has the best closing kick in the field.
Ms Wonder Woman - Clever class drop by Sean McCarthy; she could get an easy lead and be tough to reel in late.
Long Shot - Whatsitgonnatake
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
El Supremo - Like the big trainer switch to Rafael Becerra; subtle class drop will help this guy too, be along in time.
Delicato - Has been rushed a bit in his last two starts; would like to see Joe Talamo ride with a bit more patience.
Long Shot - Onetimeatbandcamp
Best Bet - Kearns Prints (race 6)
Hollywood Sunday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/2/$9.00; Long Shots, 9/1/$24.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
