HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time noon
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
Hemet - Monster win last time, if repeated, would absolutely crush these; the key will be how much he will bounce today.
City Stormer - Bad luck for G. F. Almeida to be taken off a rare winning mount; racing is a brutal game when you're looking up.
Long Shot - Corvinus
Race 2 - 1 mile (turf), $100,000 Will Rogers, 3-year-olds
Indian Sun - Hendricks did the right thing, if you're not good enough for the Kentucky Derby, come home; may be better on turf.
Polonius - Speedball was ultra impressive two races ago winning the Pasadena; he can be excused for his SA Derby finish.
Long Shot - Robscarvic
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Big Red Tate - Ran great in debut, repeat effort is good enough; if he wins, keep an eye on Rhodine's Kid in the finale.
Syndicator - Improving with every start, won't take much for him to graduate today; elongated sprint distance will help.
Long Shot - Afleet's Design
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $61,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 4-year-olds and up
Dixie Meister - Second start off a one-year sabbatical; Julio Canani barn is en fuego literally from coast to coast.
Luhuk's Dancer - Exits a key race finishing third behind good ones in Street Boss and Tropic Storm; chance to step up.
Long Shot - Supah Blitz
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, $75,000 Desert Stormer Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Dearest Trickski - We'll see if she can rate because Overly Tempting will get the early lead; what a nice claim she's been.
Silky Smooth - Rafael Bejarano can sit in the cat bird seat tracking all of the early speed; suspect she will be flying late.
Long Shot - Prime Catch
Race 6 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Smart 'n Striking - Here's my angle in here, I think a Smart Strike filly will win; this FTS hails from Craig Dollase.
Mystical Woman - Another Smart Strike is making her second career start for trainer Neil Drysdale; improves in second start.
Long Shot - Solar Miss
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Public Image - Draw a line thru his last start and he's right there; Sise is able to hire Bejarano who had other choices.
California Flag - Speedball moves from inside to far outside, but his strategy won't change; plays catch me if you can.
Long Shot - Lit'sgoodlookngray
Race 8 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $34,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
World War - Claimed last time out by Mike Mitchell, always a positive signal; Florida import is certainly not outclassed.
Irish Ty - Won nicely off a 16-month hiatus; he could bounce, but then again he beat this class of horse last time out.
Long Shot - Hit and Hope
Race 9 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Ace High Hand - Note the exit of Alex Solis from this Bruce Headley runner; Joel Rosario is an up and comer, no problems.
Yankee Station - FTS from John Shirreffs barn that typically picks up at Hollywood, his home base; watch tht tote for clues.
Long Shot - Nationwide Family
Race 10 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Love Happens - Not thrilled with the parking lot post, like the rider switch to Bejarano; Mitchell has had too many seconds.
Billie Bob - Speedball tactics could upset from the Wesley Ward barn; class drop helps, remind Alex Solis to leave running.
Long Shot - Another Aleyna
Race 11 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Rhodine's Kid - Was running best in the stretch last time but ran out of ground; will love the elongated sprint distance.
Dead Heat - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom class level; draws better moving from the rail to outside.
Long Shot - McArthur
Best Bet - Rhodine's Kid (race 11)
Hollywood Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$23.80; Long Shots, 8/4/$34.80; Best Bet, 0/0/$0
