HORSE RACING
May 9, 2008 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Shebang - Ran well last time in debut over Cushion track; Friday night racing typically favors tactical and early speed.
Yearly Gift - Speedball tactics and class relief can make her very dangerous from the rail; Nakatani needs to get going.
Long Shot - Totally Phat
Race 2 - 6 furlongs (turf), $62,000 Lawndale, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Bahama Mama - Drifted last time when crossing the main track, tough way to lose when tons the best; no such changes tonight.
Missvinski - Been away 7-month for Julio Canani, but that's seldom a problem for his barn; sits and fires late under Pedroza.
Long Shot - Macadamia
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Coronado's Pride - Speedball stretching out should be able to dictate the pace; as I wrote earlier, speed kills at night.
Gold Trim - Tepid chalk makes his second start off the claim by Jack Carava; he's proven he belongs at this class level.
Long Shot - Like New Money
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Stomp Dance - Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano knows what he's doing; has plenty of speed, but he can rate them somehow.
All About Larry - Interesting that Bejarano exits the favorite to ride for Melody Conlon; still, this guy ran big last time.
Long Shot - Dancewiththedevil
Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $34,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Mama Lula - Figures to get a nice ground saving trip from the rail; Joel Rosario seldom wins with favorites or speed horses.
No Ka Oi - Hard fought win in last, now claimed by Julio Canani; she is well placed for an immediate ROI, Garcia stays loyal.
Long Shot - Belly Button Dawn
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Dr. Skimming - Speedball faltered late in last, his first start in 10-months; moves inside from post 11 and gets Bejarano.
Ribald - FTS from the Art Sherman barn, like that he hires Tyler Baze to ride; some bullet works hint of precociousness.
Long Shot - I Am Game
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Exhale - Test drive last time off a 16-month sabbatical; suspect John Sadler will ask for a lot more than cruise control.
Major Pleasure - Been away 7-months, but is good enough to attract Rafael Bejarano off the chalk; watch the tote for clues.
Long Shot - Unusual Jail
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Go Cardinal Gal - Third start off a 7-month hiatus could be her best; she's been knocking on the door in her last two starts.
Burnt - She's not much filly, even from the Bobby Frankel barn; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming.
Long Shot - Titan Queen
Best Bet - Shebang (race 1)
Hollywood Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$20.00; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
