HORSE RACING
April 27, 2008 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), $150,000 Fran's Valentine, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Tiz a Blend - Broke through with a career best performance last time out; she is a proven turf runner who can still improve.
Lightmyfirebaby - Her early speed could be helpful with the turf rail out 15 feet; Alex Solis is not a take the lead rider.
Long Shot - Tutta Bella
Race 2 - 7 furlongs, $150,000 B Thoughtful, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Tiz Elemental - She's proven herself in open compnay, much less with restricted Cal-breds; she will take some beating today.
Silver Z - Speedball is turning back in distance, an angle I like a lot; we'll see if she can hold off the favorite late.
Long Shot - Chosen Royalty
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, $200,000 Melair, Cal-breds, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Final Fling - Turned in a game effort when third in the grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks; none such fillies in this Cal-bred filly.
Bel Air Sizzle - She has spent most of her resume running on turf and in open company; she was an easy winner last time out.
Long Shot - Ice Lady
Race 4 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), $150,000 TVG Khaled, 4-year-olds and up
Lava Man - He may have slowed a step or two at age 7, but he's still all class; 6-months rest hopefully did him some good.
Celtic Dreamin - A great example of the positive nature of Cushion track; he has gotten better and better, won on turf too.
Long Shot - Epic Power
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 NTRA, Cal-breds, Maidens, 3-year-olds and up
Dr. Skimming - Leap of faith that Garrett Gomez was told the right things by Doug O'Neill; been away 9-months for this.
Dancing in Silks - Tepid chalk in a difficult heat; Carla Gaines babies tend to improve with experience, fits the bill.
Long Shot - Ginobili
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, $70,000 Warrens Thoroughbreds, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Lovehi - Has been toiling in open company most of her career, this is class relief facing state-breds; Bejarano at 8/1 odds.
Sangay - Parking lot post can be a hindrance, but this is an elongated sprint distance; no chance in last chasing River Glow.
Long Shot - Sherry's High
Race 7 - 7 1/2 furlongs, $150,000 Tiznow, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
Notional - Hopefully he's rebounded from an ill-fated trip to Dubai; he is a nice colt capable of winning a lot of stakes.
Medzendeekron - Barry Abrams is known for starting horses back on short rest; he feels if they are sharp, let them run.
Long Shot - Jack's Wild
Race 8 - 7 furlongs, $70,000 Barretts, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Credibility - Almost anyone can win in as wide open a race as I've seen all year; his MSW win two back was a key race.
Bestdressed - No respect for a horse exiting two decent stakes tries; Jon Court hasn't won many, but usually at big odds.
Long Shot - One On the House
Race 9 - 1 1/8th miles, $250,000 Snow Chief, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
Rosso Corsa - Was surprised to see him in the Santa Anita Derby last time; Vienna hasn't lost his mind, he must like him.
Pleasure Grounds - Logical chalk has the best resume in the field; at a short price, he has a tough task from post 13.
Long Shot - Scott's Spirit
Race 10 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 Magali Farms, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Just N Excess - Favorite gets the parking lot post, but does have enough early speed to clear the field; the one to beat.
Sensitive Soul - Ran ugly last time in her turf debut; returns to Cushion track where her first race, two back, was good.
Long Shot - Warren's Monarchos
Best Bet - Tiz Elemental (race 2)
Hollywood Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$42.80; Long Shots, 9/1/$10.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 65/21/$137.80; Long Shots, 34/2/$26.00; Best Bets, 4/2/$7.20
