HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Gentle Gale - Was scratched the other day for this softer spot; she may turn out to be better as a closing sprinter.
Masterful Miss - Tactical speed to sit a perfect trip; third start off a 2-month hiatus, Baze must hold off the closers late.
Long Shot - Sweetsinginanita
Race 2 - 5 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Veranda Cafe - Sneaking suspicion that with Rafael Bejarano riding for Peter Miller and Little Red Feather, they are live.
Gabby's Golden Gal - How many times do you see a favored FTS from Alex Solis and Ron McAnally win, not often; will be overbet.
Long Shot - South of France
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $53,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Cinder Cone - Should be dead fit exiting a long sequence of grass routes; key is he's only run once on synthetic surface.
Matty's G Force - Maiden claiming graduate steps up to face winners for the first time; liked his race two back a lot better.
Long Shot - Parko
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Carona Time - Speedy sort will appreciate the turf rail out 10 feet; suspect Quinonez should send and control the pace.
Table Four Ten - Tepid favorite in a difficult open affair; showed he's OK on turf last time, been improving with each start.
Long Shot - Scotty Jones
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Sweet Dee's - Speedy sort turns back in distance for this; it's her first try on synthetic surface, but does have Bejarano.
Exquisite Beauty - Have a feeling that this mare is sitting on a good race; class relief and switch to Solis signal intent.
Long Shot - Bartok's Bling
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Sweet Awakening - Jerry Hollendorfer adds two things to win, blinkers on and Bejarano; should improve in second career start.
Holladay Dixie - Tough trip last time from parking lot post 12 in a turf sprint; moves inside and will save some ground.
Long Shot - Joint Agreement
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Army Officer - Like the subtle turnback in distance; set ridiculous fractions in a speed duel last time, paid the price late.
Bettin an Sweatin - Logical chalk off a strong second last time from parking lot post 12; repeat effort puts him right there.
Long Shot - Big Red Tate
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Affirmed Handicap, 3-year-olds
Two Step Salsa - Passed a big test last time, now goes around 2-turns for the first time; nice late developing 3-year-old.
Dixie Chatter - Got a nice prep in the Barrera off a 8-month hiatus; Mandella figures to have him wound tighter for this.
Long Shot - Exuma
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Helm's Bells - FTS from the Jerry Fanning barn; shows good enough workouts, only question is Talamo rides and not Alex Solis.
High Investment - He is now 0-for-17 lifetime, but keeps finishing in the exotics; even Bejarano gives him a shot today.
Long Shot - Biczar Humor
Best Bet - Gentle Gale (race 1)
Hollywood Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/4/$19.20; Long Shots, 8/2/$17.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.80
