HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
Bewitching Bartok - If the Friday night trend holds up, speed horses will do better than closers; cozy post in elongated sprint.
Celtic Sword - His last race was too bad to be true; Julio Canani puts a red light special on him, he still wants the purse too.
Long Shot - Si Chimi
Race 2 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Look Deep - Speedy sort gets a beneficial rail post for this turf sprint configuration; Martin Pedroza should be aggressive.
Squeeze Me Tight - Tactical speed to sit a perfect trip, especially if Look Deep leaves from the rail; love Valdivia on turf.
Long Shot - Runforthemoneybaby
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Catch Candy - Ran OK in last off the claim by Bill Spawr; the Mig had a choice and stays loyal to the barn, will show speed.
Applaud Dubai - Just missed last time in a top effort; claimed by Shulman from Jeff Mullins, key for me is Bejarano rides.
Long Shot - Forgiveandforget
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Padach - Leap of faith that Jerry Hollendorfer off the claim will lead to big improvement; note she was bet in her debut.
My Sister Laureen - Jorge Periban takes the blinkers off for this; showed improvement in last and was wagered on accordingly.
Long Shot - Here Is Djs Buddy
Race 5 - 7 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Cherokee Tear - Picked a dead late closer because of an overabundance of early speed; like the turn back in distance for this.
Cost of Freedom - Logical chalk ran a huge race last time in the Tiznow; he won't get an easy lead today despite class relief.
Long Shot - Wink At the Girls
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Dynaquake - Ran miserably in last, so I'll draw a line thru it; his race two back is fast enough to upset these.
Stomp Dance - Value comes because Rafael Bejarano opted to ride Souvenir Moment; bugboy Campos takes over for Melody Conlon.
Long Shot - Awesome Graf
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Outlaw James - I decided to go with a dead late closer because of value, and multiple speed horses; will be flying in the lane.
Tribal Mischief - Tepid chalk in a wide open race; Bejarano isn't riding as many favorites tonight as he normally does.
Long Shot - Prize of the City
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Absolutely Smitten - Deserving favorite off two good seconds at this class level; Adam Kitchingman is tough in these spots.
Spring Catch - Started slow but closed fast last time to just miss; making her third start off a 11-month sabbatical.
Long Shot - Cinderella Ella
Best Bet - Cherokee Tear (race 5)
Hollywood Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/4/$20.80; Long Shots, 8/1/$24.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 441/114/$740.20; Long Shots, 225/21/$223.40; Best Bets, 25/13/$57.80
