HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time noon
Race 1 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Be Glorious - Ran greenly from the gate, but found her best stride in the stretch; typical improvement from Frankel barn.
Wickednwackyingrid - High early speed could be helped by either the rail being out 24 feet, or by a sopping Cushion track.
Long Shot - Sweet Lemonade
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Adarlyn Cat - Baffert cull hasn't gotten the strongest of rides, now a major switch to Bejarano; stalks and pounces late.
Magic Label - Dead late closer will offer some value exiting a miserable route race; appears better as a closing sprinter.
Long Shot - Omi's Back
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Santa Ysabel, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Turn Away - Frankel filly lost all chance at the start of the Golden Rod; she ran remarkably well to get into contention.
Initiation - Love the Graham Motion barn, all class animals and ready to go; top jock Leparoux hasn't ridden much so far.
Long Shot - Grace Anatomy
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds
Lit'sgoodlookngray - Sure to be overlooked as Gomez has opted to ride the morning line chalk; tactical speed to sit a trip.
Luis's Especial - Hard trying Cerin charge has run his eyeballs out the last three races; main fear is if he's over the top.
Long Shot - Law Breaker
Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $57,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Lowry - Another turf race most likely to run over the wet Cushion track; Frankel charge is by Anees, champion 2-year-old.
Palladian General - Dead late closer has shown the ability to run well over turf or main track; offers a lot of value.
Long Shot - James The Third
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 4-year-olds
Afleet's Desire - Got some needed conditioning in last, now turns back in distance; looks like a late closing sprinter to me.
Lady In Love - Logical chalk with Gomez, closed with a flourish in last to just miss; like wide posts in elongated sprints.
Long Shot - Ready Maid
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $28,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds
Tommys Luck - Checked at a key point in the stretch, rerallied to just miss; the hot Conlon barn has earned my attention.
Big Dude - Always look twice when Gomez takes over the reins; advantage of a couple nice races around 2-turns.
Long Shot - Stormin Story
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up
Zayed - Was ridden all wrong last time, proven when Trail Mix won right back; Talamo needs to sit back just a little bit.
Made in California - Gomez takes over for the Mig, who both have Ron Anderson as their agent; offers a lot of value.
Long Shot - Dark Past
Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles, $150,000 San Pasqual Handicap, 4-year-olds and up
Well Armed - Has a big tactical advantage of being lone speed on the front end; depends on who wants to chase him early.
Racketeer - Did everything but win last time in a strong effort; will be tighter in second start off a 6-month hiatus.
Long Shot - Thousand Words
Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Malabar Star - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like that Gomez rides a cheap claimer.
Regal Redemption - Could be a Ron Anderson quinella as the Mig rides this one for Jay Robbins; will be closing fast late.
Long Shot - Storming Slew
Best Bet - Turn Away (race 3)
Santa Anita Friday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 12/5/$31.20; Long Shots, 7/2/$25.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$9.00
