TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up
Oceanography - Beaten favorite finds himself in an easier spot today; small consolation if they don't race again today.
Any Kind of Storm - Did a long range pop and stop last time, now gets reunited with Joel Rosario; room to rebound.
Long Shot - Kalookan Boss
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Warrior's Vow - Keeps sliding down the claiming ladder; also Gomez remains loyal despite a stinker last time out.
Arroyo Trabuco - Draw a line thru the last turf race and he looks very competitive with these; tactical speed to sit a trip.
Long Shot - Catch That Thief
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up
Waveland Avenue - Looked green and lost early in his debut, then exploded in the stretch run; small improvement can win it.
Union Scale - FTS from the Sadler barn has been drawing rave reviews in the a.m.; caveat is the barn seldom wins with FTS.
Long Shot - Fiery Trippi
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $26,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Colominas - Turf Paradise invader has a strong enough resume where she is not outclassed; price tag screams win or else.
Blushing Bear Cat - Mid-priced pick for the forgiving handicappers; claimed by Spawr as a beaten chalk, room to rebound.
Long Shot - Topper's Gold
Race 5 - 7 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
In the Woods - Did everything but win last time in a gutsy effort; big rider switch to Bejarano for the money shot.
Street Boss - Solis back riding for his main man Bruce Headley; dead late closer should do better in a elongated sprint.
Long Shot - Buc Spartan
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds
Haggis Macpherson - Dropping in class from this MSW to a high maiden claimer; note who beat him, Gayego and Hoods Up.
Recoil - Been second in 2-of-3 starts, may be knocking on the door; tactical speed to sit a nice trip throughout.
Long Shot - Stanford Gold
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, $75,000 Paseana Handicap, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Grain of Truth - No shame chasing wild winner Romance Is Diane in the Bayakoa; like the switch to hot riding Bejarano.
Monashee - Emerald shipper loves to win, 17-of-23 lifetime; has good early speed but will get tested for class today.
Long Shot - Fonce De
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
Unbroken Vow - Better than looked try in last, Nakatani could get him over the hump; good wide open race for the High Five.
Razor Cut - A lot of FTS could show action on the tote board; has nine career starts, but gets his first try under Talamo.
Long Shot - Unique Effort
Best Bet - In the Woods (race 5)
