TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Oldtophatandtails - Speedy sort appears to be sitting on a big effort; Garcia seldom rides for Capestro, interesting.
Way to Go Eddie - Chalk hasn't been seen in a year; is taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.
Long Shot - Tracker Jack
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Dr. Au Jus - Just the thing to go with a French dip sandwich; like the turn back in distance, will be grinding late.
Two Step Salsa - It's never easy to win your MSW and beat winners the next time out; from 19/1 that day to heavy chalk.
Long Shot - Reel Prime
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $37,000, Maiden claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds
One Chin Again - Gomez isn't riding many today, so expect these few to be live; ran a winning race for this level in last.
Noble Courage - Speedball stretching out first time around 2-turns may not stop; simple tactics today for Michael Baze.
Long Shot - Master Plan
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $44,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Jambalaya Joy - Not intimidated by the high odds in a short field; class relief can help her an awful lot.
Kalookan Lessie - Tepid chalk in another wide open race; claimed by the maestro Hollendorfer, will move her up.
Long Shot - Categorize
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds
Monk - Tiny edge in a real dart throw of a race; has enough back class where a repeat performance is very doable.
Dixie Music Roll - Was gaining ground late last time, maybe it was an optical illusion; won at this level back at Hollywood.
Long Shot - Held Up
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up
Brother Pegasus - Beaten favorite gets the returning Nakatani in the saddle; hungry rider for a hot trainer, Gary Stute.
Corvinus - Logical chalk off a solid effort last time at 27/1 odds; repeat effort puts him right there again.
Long Shot - Warren's Secret
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Gypsy Baby - Favorite in a real puzzle of a race; everyone has big question marks including a trio making their U.S. debut.
Eileen's Violet - One of the European imports, this one from the Craig Dollase barn; they are all running first time Lasix.
Long Shot - Blue Rhapsody
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
Call Transfer - Taking a big class drop from the top O'Neill barn; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip, the one to beat.
Warren's Jack V. - Has a difficult parking post at one mile; blinkers off, he has no speed anyway, Court must tuck in early.
Long Shot - Dusty Trail
Best Bet - Brother Pegasus (race 6)
