TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Perfect Quality - Did everything but win last time in a strong effort; she ran fast enough in last to win at this level.
Morgan Lane - Dead late closer will shorten up today; wide rallying moves have been effective over this synthetic surface.
Long Shot - Inspired Storm
Race 2 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $57,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Christina's Heat - Has developed into a consistent turfer for Barry Abrams; eyeball Abrams second entrant, Bel Air Sizzle.
Celebration - With the turf rail out 30 feet, her early speed can be a dangerous weapon; Joel Rosario should just send.
Long Shot - Sherry's High
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up
Aggressive - Did everything but win last time in a gutty effort; Jeff Mullins barn is finishing up the meet white hot.
Shootist - Expect speedball tactics in this abbreviated sprint; lone speed can be the best bet in horse racing.
Long Shot - Power Shift
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
Follows None - Dead late closer is overdue to break his maiden; has improved for Mark Molina off the claim, maybe today.
Sir Carson - Made a good middle move in debut before tiring late; has every right to improve for Gary Mandella second out.
Long Shot - R Lumber
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Onefunsonofagun - Beaten favorite clearly did not run the race she is capable of in last; subtle class drop will help.
Love Happens - Logical chalk did everything right in last out victory; a repeat of that effort can win again today.
Long Shot - Respecttheofficer
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, 4-year-olds
Mt. Orient - Taking a small, but significant, class drop to face these; he's a proven commodity down the hillside course.
Brave Sun - Won last time and gets a deserved class rise; dead late closer will see plenty of pace to chase in here.
Long Shot - Bitter Bill
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Cost of Freedom - A visually impressive win in last, appeared to have a lot more in the gas tank; Tyler Baze for Bejarano.
Scrumpy - His resume looks brighter since switching from dirt to synthetic surfaces; will be forwardly placed throughout.
Long Shot - Trilliant
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Chicks Rule - Part of a very strong O'Neill entry; she failed a post race test for bicarbonate, wins fair and square today.
Remember Seattle - Improved a lot in last off the claim by John Sadler; suspect she may not be done improving either.
Long Shot - Fabuloso
Best Bet - Follows None (race 4)
