HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time noon

Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Ava G - Gomez is attached to more favorites than the asterisk in the Daily Racing Form; will sit a trip and grind it out late.

Soaring Lauren - If you can get her morning line price of 12/1 odds, she has to be on your ticket; Bejarano remains loyal.

Long Shot - Sanmeli

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up

Kaianagandaia - Hard name to say, easier horse to bet; figures to offer a lot of value, his race two back can upset these.

My Master - West barn needs a win in the worst way; 9-YO has plenty of back class where he could pair up winning races.

Long Shot - Currency Trader

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

Lead Stealer - Morey has done a terrific job since claiming him for $8k; only dislike is the rail post, Flores takes over.

Surf Town - Tepid chalk in a wide open hillside turf race; Blanc did nothing wrong in last, gets replaced today by Court.

Long Shot - Best Dressed

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds

Sing Me a Psalm - Another Gomez chalk, Sadler adds blinkers on for more focus; colt is capable of more than he showed in last.

Maeken Noise - Speedball draws the dreaded rail, which won't hurt because he was leaving anyway; Gryder will burn baby burn.

Long Shot - Unbroken Vow

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), $100,000 Tuzla Handicap, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Good Mood - Dead late closer should see a positive pace scenario to do his best; Michael Baze can save all the ground inside.

Unspoken Word - Favorite is a speedy sort in a race packed with speed types; Bejarano is a master at relaxing his mounts.

Long Shot - Live Life

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Gambler's Justice - Tough beat to Final Fling, a very talented filly for Mullins; a repeat race would beat these today.

Little Gypsy - Beaten favorite has yet to make a quantuum leap forward; she shows good ability, but must show improvement.

Long Shot - Suziqcutie

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $28,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Ballestero - Solid improvement in last, now a switch to Nakatani for the money shot; Corey loves to save all the ground.

Capi and Max - Turf debut was a good one, losing a difficult head bob; this may be his preferred surface, we'll find out.

Long Shot - Fantastic Meeting

Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $32,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Sunday Dress - Claimed by the maestro claiming trainer Hollendorfer; mare is well spotted where she can repeat her effort.

Silber - Gomez factor is always powerful; mare has yet to win on synthetic surfaces, but she is dead fit exiting turf routes.

Long Shot - P Town Princess

Race 9 - 1 1/4 miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), $150,000 San Marcos, 4-year-olds and up

Champs Elysees - Ran very well in U.S. debut chasing Pletcher's Sunriver; the pace has to be faster than set by Sunriver.

Medici Code - Underrated horse runs hard every time facing top competition; negative is he's giving weight to tough foes.

Long Shot - Obrigado

Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Warren's Scooter - Gomez could easily win 3 or 4 races; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.

Scottish Diamond - Sharp speed effort last time under P Val; Bejarano takes over, he is a much more patient jockey.

Long Shot - Court Rule

Best Bet - Champs Elysees (race 9)
