HORSE RACING
OAK TREE AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Toy's Toy - Speedball tactics could be effective over the souped up Cushion track; like the drastic drop in class too.
America's Friend - Getting long in the tooth, but facing a very slow field today; like the rider switch to Espinoza.
Long Shot - Tiztuff
Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $52,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Angel Craft - Tiny edge in an extremely difficult heat; I went to the Drysdale filly because she has a high ceiling still.
Andrea - Gets big time class relief from the grade 2 Palomar for this condition allowance; chance for Jara to break through.
Long Shot - Sure Speed
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 2-year-olds
D. Double You - Miller barn has been the story of the summer, outshining far bigger stables; like this Calder invader.
Roadside Rest - Sise baby improved a lot second time out, as expected; suspect Solis will ride the same, sit and fire late.
Long Shot - Scott's Poppy
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Ellie's Buddha - Jara has a second live mount on the card, the kid can ride so it's only a matter of time; big class drop.
Love Happens - Ran very wide on both turns at Fairplex so she got a good education; switch to Espinoza, expect a lot better.
Long Shot - Fast N Flirty
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Cheyenne Queen - This leg of the pick 6 you better go deep for maximum coverage; ran OK at Fairplex, can improve even more.
Chestnut Chips - You could do worse than include Monteleone off the claim on your pick 6 ticket; note Espinoza takes the call.
Long Shot - Torikins
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Left Unsaid - FTS from Frankel is bred in the pink to love grass; good spot because there isn't much in here to be afraid of.
Chanjo - Logical chalk ran well in debut, now makes a surface switch to turf; by Point Given, 2-turn racing is up his sleeve.
Long Shot - Southwest
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $47,000, Optional claiming $32,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
G. I. Betty - Was visually impressive breaking her MSW over an overmatched crew in last; she's always been highly regarded.
High Cholesterol - Solid second last time in a class relief race; she gets more help today facing restricted state-breds.
Long Shot - Rollerskates
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Highland Torree - Like the turn back in distance and the rider switch to the Mig for the money shot; will be grinding late.
In Daddy's Honor - Tepid chalk mainly out of respect for Mitchell off the claim; she showed speed and is exiting a key race.
Long Shot - Chicks Rule
Best Bet - Highland Torree (race 8)
Santa Anita Sunday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/5/$42.20; Long Shots, 10/1/$8.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 86/19/$135.40; Long Shots, 44/5/$39.80; Best Bets, 5/1/$4.40
