HORSE RACING
July 5, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Warren's Appeal - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; like that Nakatani is jumping on board here.
Catinthepinkhat - Good effort in debut, if she moves forward a step she'll be right there; wide post no problem in a six pack.
Long Shot - Magnificent Valor
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds
Afleet Aloha - Tepid chalk in a tiny field, he hasn't shown anything to get excited about; best on paper of a slow group.
A Toast to Tanner - Suspect in a small field, this could well become a rider's race; Nakatani double would be no surprise.
Long Shot - Meaux Power
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $480,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
G. I. Betty - Looked like a winner turning for home in last before getting collared; she showed some moxie in her route debut.
Chocolate Lava - Stretching out around 2-turns for the first time, we'll see what she's got; the winner survives at the wire.
Long Shot - Awesome Broad
Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Hudson Bank - Red hot Ellis barn is shortening up this guy from 2-turns to this elongated sprint; figures to be charging late.
Vitali - I like backing Agapito on long shots, he rides everything hard; making his third start off a 5-month sabbatical.
Long Shot - Social Slewpy
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Surf Town - Has won both turf starts around 2-turns for O'Neill; he deserves this chance to work through his conditions.
Dadsalittleunusual - Has run well enough in his last few starts to tease us; will save all the ground and grind it out late.
Long Shot - Teeman
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds
Las Vegas Lucky - Sliding down the claiming ladder where he's almost reached the basement; facing the slowest group of his life.
Longhorn - Was done in by competing in a fast early pace last time; he'll enjoy a slow pace today in a less demanding spot.
Long Shot - Papa Bruschi
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 4-year-olds and up
Bushwacker - Speedball might just be able to steal this on the front end; the key is if Wind Water decides to duel with him.
Declan's Moon - It's been a long time between drinks for this guy, he last won in March 2005; shown signs of life recently.
Long Shot - Yes He's a Pistol
Race 8 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Afleet's Desire - Took the married man's route for third in last, lost to a perfect trip winner; should save a little ground.
Ruthie's Girl - Lost all chance early on when bumped leaving the gate; suspect she'll be forwardly today placed by Espinoza.
Long Shot - Royal Heraldry
Best Bet - Las Vegas Lucky (race 6)
Hollywood Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$31.80; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
Hollywood Totals - 900/209/$1,383.00; Long Shots, 437/60/$651.20; Best Bets, 53/23/$97.40
