HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time noon

Race 1 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $62,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Ten Downing Street - Speedball draws the rail where it'll make his upset task a shade easier; Agapito puts him on the engine.

Medzendeekron - Logical chalk should see plenty of pace to do his best; main fear is if no one challenges Agapito early on.

Long Shot - Temecula Creek

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $70,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Tiz Afire - Upset winner figures to be a square price again facing a slightly tougher group; gets the weight off with Talamo.

Devil's Bay - Was inches behind the chalk at the wire last time and is a much higher odds; suspect a forward moving pattern.

Long Shot - King Palm

Race 3 - 1 1/8th miles, $300,000 Vanity Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Hystericalady - May be able to turn the tables with a softer pace; Flores should have learned important lessons last time.

Nashoba's Key - Can't fault her talent, she is still improving with every start; problem here is a paceless looking race.

Long Shot - Balance

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Set for Combat - Typical Headley debut in last, off slowly, into stride late; has been working well to show improvement here.

Dr. Skimming - Did a classic pop and stop facing maiden claimers in last; he set a very fast pace that could toast many today.

Long Shot - Gentle Romeo

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $65,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

Brilliant Cut - Was flattered when two horses that beat him in last, won next time out; key race angle for Frankel-Bejarano.

Sinister Minister - This may be the right move to get him back on track, a 1-turn race; we'll watch the tactics of Espinoza.

Long Shot - Oceanus

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $62,500, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Mi Arcobaleno - The last time Bejarano was out west, he won six races in one day; note that Frankel names him to his A-list.

Forward Commitment - Expect improvement first time off the claim by Koriner; like that he switches to meet leading rider Baze.

Long Shot - Fortunate Victory

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Carly Effect - Suspect she'll be higher odds than her 4/1 morning line; big rider switch to Talamo after a bad beat DQ in last.

Pieces of Paradise - Turning back in distance to this elongated sprint for the white hot Ellis barn; will be flying in the lane.

Long Shot - Sportie's Squeeze

Race 8 - 1 mile (turf) Purse $65,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Heated Rebel - Returns to her best surface where she's won 2-of-4 starts lifetime; tactical speed to sit a trip for Solis.

Kendargent - Logical chalk figures to be way overbet if you look at her foes back in France; she has tons of class if ready.

Long Shot - Yodelen Dan

Race 9 - 7 furlongs, $300,000 Triple Bend Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Silent Name - Slight edge in an incredibly difficult race; his win two back at Keeneland was a romp over a stellar field.

El Roblar - Ran a career best last time, given 29 days rest to avoid a bounce; elongated sprints may be his best distance.

Long Shot - Siren Lure

Race 10 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $750,000 American Oaks, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Just Little - I went with all foreign shippers in this prestigious stakes; has tactical speed to sit just off the leaders.

Robe Decollete - Japanese invaders need no introduction in SoCal stakes; if they say she's very good, that's enough for me.

Long Shot - Supposition

Race 11 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Georgie Boy - Was no secret in debut when hammered down to 4/5 favoritism; Walsh adding blinkers on and switching to Smith.

Numismatist - Second best in debut to a very good winner, no shame; O'Neill rarely cranks them up so improvement is expected.

Long Shot - Dixie Chatter

Best Bet - Just Little (race 10)

Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$22.60; Long Shots, 7/2/$13.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.40

Hollywood Totals - 915/213/$1,405.60; Long Shots, 444/62/$664.80; Best Bets, 54/24/$102.80
