HORSE RACING
December 5, 2007 - 10:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Ask Sam - Has run miserably of late, but note that the great Gomez climbs on board; like the turn back in distance too.
Startin Fresh - Speedball has won two straight, one on the lead, another stalking the pace; she is in top form right now.
Long Shot - Sunday Dress
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Distorted Passion - Bred to be any kind, she broke her MSW in professional fashion; enough speed to maintain position.
Nook and Granny - Sharp, fast debut win, now switches from the Mig to Gomez, remember, same agent; sure to get overbet.
Long Shot - Peisinoe
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Brian the Bold - Didn't have enough distance to get the job done in last; stretching out in distance should help him.
Lost Paradise - Was stuck inside last time and didn't have free running; his race two back is fast enough to upset.
Long Shot - Jupiter's Stone
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
Call Or Raise - Mitchell barn has all the gun barrels pointed for this meet; Nakatani can sit a stalking wide out trip.
Somthintomakimrun - Speedball will try to outbreak this group and play catch me if you can; small, but subtle, class drop.
Long Shot - My Master
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Life At Ten - If Distorted Passion wins race 2, greatly elevate her chances too; Gomez will ride first call for Pletcher.
Skylighter - Frankel will use Bejarano, Leparoux and Talamo for the most part; beaten chalk at Aqueduct, faces tougher here.
Long Shot - Tates Queen
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Jitterbug Ball - Knapp claims and spots him nicely for a quick ROI; beaten favorite has a chance to rebound at a price.
Ghosttrapper - Barely ran a step last time, but Sherman must be respected and his value goes sky high; speed to compete.
Long Shot - Gray Black N White
Race 7 - 1 1/2 miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), $65,000 Hermosa Beach Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Wingspan - She's a lot better on turf than the main track; Gomez has done little wrong this meet, gives every horse a shot.
Sohgol - Dead late closer has yet to win in 2007; she has underachieved considering the terrific pedigree she possesses.
Long Shot - Rockella
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Familiar Stranger - Claimed by Sadler off a good debut try for Mullins; simple tactics of go as fast and as far as he can.
Alfred Kent - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; suspect will sit midpack and rally in the lane.
Long Shot - High Investment
Best Bet - Distorted Passion (race 2)
