HORSE RACING
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $34,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Arroyo Trabuco - Speedball may be able to steal off early unopposed; been unlucky to lose his two route tries before this.
Steamy Story - Game maiden claiming win, now facing winners for the first time; should be able to stretch out for Nakatani.
Long Shot - Consigner
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Teacher's Rule - Looked much sharper last time wearing blinkers on for the first time; class relief didn't hurt her either.
Wild Baby Girl - FTS from Hofmans has been working well in the a.m.; you have an edge over me, you'll see odds on the FTS.
Long Shot - Harlan's Song
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Celtic Way - Moved far too late under Talamo and had to settle for third; she has tons of back class to maintain her form.
Ever So Nice - Ran miserably in last, but Mullins horses have a way of bouncing back; exiting a bullet work, good enough.
Long Shot - All Thee B
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Powerofvoodoo - Not thrilled with the parking lot post, but that can only help the price; Baze will find a way to tuck in.
Pokomoke - Was flattered when D Pirates Marker won next time out; switch to bugboy Quinonez to take the weight off.
Long Shot - Robadorable
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Coyote Fast - Canani horses have looked good, run fast so far this meet; third start off a 1-year hiatus could be his best.
Six Pack Abs - One of the few Autrey starters who hasn't been claimed, but he may get taken today; he is dropping in class.
Long Shot - Dennybuck
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Earnednevergiven - Stretching out for the first time, he looks like he'll handle the distance; Baze is proving he's no fluke.
Gentle Romeo - Encouraging MSW debut win, he started slow but finished fast; this is a big step up, but he appears talented.
Long Shot - Dr. Sinatra
Race 7 - 5 furlongs (turf), $85,000 Green Flash Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Barber - No shame losing to the very underrated Trickey Trevor in last; speedball should break on top and may not stop.
Scottsbluff - Dead game win last time over a game Bonfante; could sit a perfect trip stalking the searing speed of Barber.
Long Shot - Queen's Image
Race 8 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Miller's Turbo - After a slow start, the O'Neill barn is warming up nicely; Talamo should have a better feel for this guy.
Warren's Ruler - Dueled hard for the lead in last before fading late; suspect Nakatani will keep something in reserve.
Long Shot - Mahlique Gold
Best Bet - Celtic Way (race 3)
Del Mar Monday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$17.20; Long Shots, 8/3/$20.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals - 385/90/$600.60; Long Shots, 196/28/$327.60; Best Bets, 23/12/$52.80
