HORSE RACING
July 18, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile (turf), $75,000 Oceanside, 3-year-olds
Karazi - Among multiple good looking imports in their U.S. debut; drops 7-pounds from his last French start, first time Lasix.
Ten a Penny - Near perfect record in England, handling both turf and Polytrack; adding first time Lasix and getting in light.
Long Shot - Reata's Rocket
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Freedom Summit - Baffert had a slumbering Hollywood meet, will he finally explode at Del Mar; FTS facing a very soft field.
Special Smoke - Bell has a terrific win record with his second time out maidens; Free House filly found her best stride late.
Long Shot - Blazeitgirl
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Many Rivers - Got a test drive in debut when bet down to 9/2 odds; had two good works since and could explode at boxcar prices.
Coast Guard - Will be a big tout horse, look at the bullet workouts; lots of Del Mar money gets burned on horses like this.
Long Shot - Coronas At Delmar
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), $75,000 Oceanside, 3-year-olds
T'aint War Sir - Third start off a 11-month hiatus could be his best; is bred by War Chant to absolutely love the grass.
Double Action - Stretching out in distance after a sequence of very good races; suspect can sit a trip and grind it out late.
Long Shot - Star Inside
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
Run Forest Run - Clearly ran like a short horse in last, first start off a 10-month hiatus; was well meant last Del Mar.
Cool Hand Lucca - Tepid chalk in a wide open race figures to be closing late; making his third start off a 3-month hiatus.
Long Shot - Truckee Lite
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Peace Pledge - Midwest trainer Autrey makes his Del Mar debut today; notice the mares strong races at Keeneland and Turfway.
Naughtylilhottie - Did not make much of a run last time from post 11; draws inside, big rider move to Talamo, expect better.
Long Shot - The Case Queen
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf), $75,000 Oceanside, 3-year-olds
Mayor Bozarth - Suspect this is a smouldering giant for Frankel, who has taken his time with him; will still need a trip.
Yario - May have bounced in the Will Rogers off a sensational U.S. debut; chance to save ground and rebound at a square price.
Long Shot - Vauquelin
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Six Pack Abs - Could Autrey win two races on his first day at Del Mar, why not; Talamo will sit a trip and come flying late.
Warren's Pepe - Even run last time from post 10 in first race for Hollendorfer; draws inside, gets Baze, expect a lot more.
Long Shot - Sabio
Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $63,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Imagine - Appears to be improving with every race; Shirreffs barn ended up the Hollywood meet en fuego, may continue it here.
Temperance - Dead late closer has been away 9-month; note that she won her U.S. debut in a turf race at Del Mar, interesting.
Long Shot - Rocket Kitty
Best Bet - Imagine (race 9)
Hollywood Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 21/5/$21.60; Long Shots, 10/1/$6.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Final Totals - 1,049/251/$1,623.40; Long Shots, 513/72/$779.80; Best Bets, 62/27/$112.20
