HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Afleet's Desire - One of four that broke their maiden last time out; I thought her win over Polytrack gives her an edge.

Famous Secret - Earned the credits of stumbled, much the best in her debut win in NoCal; if she's the nuts, she can win.

Long Shot - Final Storm

Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

I Dig Her - Sherman filly has run two fast races for this class level; if she repeats her races, the others are in trouble.

R Charlie's Angel - Ward hasn't started many this Del Mar meet, but he's made them count; will the two favorites duel early?

Long Shot - Applaud Dubai

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Top Gone - Started slow, finished fast, promises more going long; has some good points in a race full of question marks.

Big Mahogany - He is beautifully bred for turf, didn't run a step in his debut over Polytrack; blinkers on for hot Miller.

Long Shot - Crimson Star

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $63,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Celtic Dreamin - Logical chalk ran a winning race for this class level in last; better post than stuck down on the rail.

Key Maker - Claimed by O'Neill and advanced into heady races with good results; got nailed late by a perfect trip winner.

Long Shot - Add Heat

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Tribal Chief - Claimed by Sadler from the worst debut race imaginable; bullets works, Baze takes the call, it's your move.

Warren's Scooter - Another leap of faith, Nakatani remains loyal despite not showing anything in debut; bullet works too.

Long Shot - Crimson Cowboy

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Dee Rain - He has faced some very tough foes and now takes a humongous class drop; any of his recent races are fast enough.

A Toast to Tanner - His turf try two back was a lot better than it looks; another who with today's class drop has a big shot.

Long Shot - Noble Tradition

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $68,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Andrea - Gets huge class relief from graded stakes for this common optional claimer; saves all the ground and grinds late.

Logan Avenue Linda - Claimed by Mitchell off a sharp win, we'll see if this is another future stakes winner; moves forward.

Long Shot - Dancing Sky

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Queen of the I.E. - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; minor improvement can get her photo taken.

Hi Lily Hi Lo - She had a big shot last time but couldn't dent the exacta; she's common, but so is everyone else in here.

Long Shot - Games We Play

Best Bet - I Dig Her (race 2)

Del Mar Monday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$28.80; Long Shots, 6/2/$26.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00

Del Mar Totals - 484/115/$822.80; Long Shots, 243/31/$425.20; Best Bets, 29/14/$59.60
