HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $63,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Angel Craft - Logical chalk ran OK in last, but was moved too soon by Espinoza; he returns and will ride with patience.

Zoemeg - Been away 7-months, but layoff horses don't come here for a test drive; like that Sadler is adding blinkers on.

Long Shot - Lady Matilda

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

Fly to the Wire - Old guy has been away 16-months, but has worked well for return; need not be much facing a soft field.

Sunday Nap - Been away 4-months, now Koriner drops the trap door on this one; has high speed so expect him to cruise early.

Long Shot - Lord Albion

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

L.A. Phil - Another layoff horse taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; from the hot Gaines barn.

Herbie Love - Been training at Del Mar and finally appears off a 2-month hiatus; like that top rider Nakatani takes the call.

Long Shot - Another Event

Race 4 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $58,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Foxy Games - Ran miserably in last first time wearing blinkers on; Cecil takes them off today and adds Espinoza, goes better.

Masterful Lass - Got a nice conditioning race last time and now is dropped first time for a price tag; blinkers on and Smith.

Long Shot - Lady Elizabeth

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Cheyenne Queen - Spawr claimed for $40k and drops her back for $16k; has red flag all over her, but he's won with these kind.

She Look Famous - Quick turnaround off the claim by Hines; dead late closer should be in good form and will be running late.

Long Shot - Gula Gold

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Watch Over Me - Mullins has been nearly unstoppable this meet; ran a winning race for this class in last, need only repeat.

Wheaton Hall - Won last time as easily as any horse the entire meet; takes a huge step up in class, but is in top condition.

Long Shot - Da Cardinal

Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $68,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

Old Man River - Been away 8-months, but this shows the respect for the Knight barn; runs first time for a claiming price.

Victory Design - Miller barn has been a pleasant surprise at the meeting, so far; Churchill horse has more than enough class.

Long Shot - Bernasconi

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden claiming $100,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Queen Holly - Tepid chalk in a race boasting seven FTS; ran OK in her debut at Hollywood over the Cushion track.

Mystic Geisha - The angle here is she is dropping down from MSW to claiming; she need not be much to cash a paycheck.

Long Shot - Chica Una

Best Bet - Angel Craft (race 1)

Del Mar Monday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/5/$34.40; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
