HORSE RACING
July 20, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 4 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden claiming $100,000, 2-year-olds
Tracton's Golden - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; his last race is fast enough to beat these.
Bond - Woke up last time when running for a price tag for the first time; a repeat performance makes him one of the ones.
Long Shot - Wild and Ready
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Warren's Devonlane - Nakatani has attacked the new Polytrack, not waited like the other riders; suspect he'll remain aggressive.
Applaud Dubai - Racing oddity in that all seven starters won their last time out; you won't see that again in a long time.
Long Shot - No Means Maybe
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Forest Miss - May have a wide trip today, but that doesn't seem as big a deal over the Polytrack; should be grinding late.
Incredible - Was ridden with the wrong tactics last time after a solid performance two races ago; she could rebound nicely.
Long Shot - Awesome Broad
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Sound Barrier - Has been keeping company with good ones including Chancellor who won next time out; dead late closer tactics.
Brave Sun - Interesting NoCal shipper from the respected Hollendorfer barn; gets class relief, which should suit him here.
Long Shot - Knighthood
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Sugar Doll - Claimed by Monteleone off a beaten favorite race; the trainer is a quick turnaround artist, so expect improvement.
Sneaky Jack - Another claimed last time, specifically for this Del Mar meet; she too was a beaten favorite in her last start.
Long Shot - Sunday Dress
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $68,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up
New Export - Got a test drive last time off a 7-month hiatus; Frankel barn has come out of the box like a burning ring of fire.
Timias - Faltered in last after a tremendous race two back; been given some time by Cecil and could rebound at square odds.
Long Shot - True Dancer
Race 7 - 5 1/2 furlongs, $125,000 California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
One Hot Wish - Hasn't been seen since one of the most impressive MSW wins of the year; we know she loves the Polytrack too.
Treadmill - She doesn't need a green card to prove she belongs with these; Nakatani figures to settle early and make one run.
Long Shot - Comical Vacation
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Funky Chanteal - Tops the charts in most speed categories going into the race; only fear is getting a clean trip thru these.
Reel Event - Didn't show much last time, but must respect the connections of Talamo and Sherman; could be closing real fast.
Long Shot - Punchette
Best Bet - New Export (race 6)
Del Mar Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 12/5/$45.00; Long Shots, 6/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals - 29/9/$72.40; Long Shots, 15/2/$13.40; Best Bets, 2/1/$5.60
