TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Teacher's Rule - Well bet in debut, the connections must think highly of her; Knight adds blinkers on and drops her in class.

Queen of the I.E. - Another taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; ran best among those with experience.

Long Shot - Mini Tales

Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Fiesty Rose - Sherman barn has come out blazing the first week of Del Mar; filly ran a winning race for this level two races ago.

Excessive Tale - Speedball may be able to slow the pace down enough to prove a pest; edge is all the jockeys are taking back.

Long Shot - Four Four Two

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Spring Awakening - Good debut for Mitchell, now appears double tough if she improves just a step; Talamo is a journeyman now.

Barbara's Love - Beaten favorite finished ahead of Spring Awakening last time out; she could prove that was no fluke today.

Long Shot - Alpine Yodel

Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $58,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Hello Bolly - Dead late closer has the right style to be very effective on Polytrack; outside post is not a detriment either.

Charm N Broad - Speedball gets the kid with the great hands, Talamo, to try and relax; key is if he can be rated off others.

Long Shot - Black Hills Goldie

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Steamy Story - Been away 3-months but has been working forwardly for this; big class drop and like reunion with Nakatani.

Mystery Hunter - Dead late closer among a few taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; will fly late.

Long Shot - Sierra Gold

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds

Jack the Duffer - Speedball gets the nod in a wide open affair; dropping in class for Monteleone, he's the one to catch.

Guitar Man - Peery adding blinkers on after a couple poor tries over Cushion track; class dropper could find friendly foes.

Long Shot - Las Vegas Lucky

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $63,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Get Off the Sugar - Failed as a beaten chalk last time, could rebound at a square price; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.

Heated Rebel - May get overlooked from a parking lot post on grass; Solis hates to ride inside so expect a very wide trip.

Long Shot - Soar With Eagles

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Larue - End of what could be a trickier day than appears on paper; Koriner filly could turn the tables on the favorite.

Like Josie Wells - Beaten chalk gets a big trainer upgrade when claimed by Hollendorfer; NoCal trainers have been doing well.

Long Shot - Reckoning Day

Best Bet - Spring Awakening (race 3)

Del Mar Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$30.00; Long Shots, 9/2/$22.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40
