HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Ooh Yeah - Private purchase before the Fleet Treat, she did a classic pop and stop; this is a good spot to regain confidence.

Lt. Lorraine - Mitchell filly needed oxygen in last trying 2-turns for the first time; she turns back in distance for this.

Long Shot - Run Kitty Run

Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

A P Charlie - O'Neill has an uncoupled entry and this is the longer odds filly; speed has been holding on better at Del Mar.

Gold Datnoid - Don't expect the two O'Neill horses to duel early; Talamo will take a snug hold and try the stablemate late.

Long Shot - Miss Melissa

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Jen's New Chapter - Hines dropped in class last time and nearly got the job done; adding blinkers on, she's the one to beat.

Madonna Mia - Interesting trainer change and dropping down into a claiming price; suspect she could wake up at large odds.

Long Shot - Yieldtothequeen

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $51,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds

Part Timer - A big positive rider switch, leading rider Baze takes over for the money shot; class relief and saves ground.

Hoist the Sail - With the turf rail out 14 feet, he could assist a speedball like this go a lot further; watch the fractions.

Long Shot - On Overdrive

Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Helmsgold - Ran well off a 10-month hiatus and first time off the claim; if she doesn't bounce, she will be the one to beat.

Curry Wray - Claimed by Koriner who is fast becoming one of my favorite trainers; tactical speed to sit a nice trip in here.

Long Shot - Silvers Surprise

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Mamselle Aries - Ships south and switches barns to O'Neill; she has been facing tougher class in NoCal, may offer some value.

Sugar Doll - Logical chalk is a solid fit at this mid-price class level; she has tactical speed and every right to repeat.

Long Shot - Team Decision

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $63,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Optimer - Talk about an unlucky animal, he has lost three straight photo finishes at this class level; due to catch a break.

Medzendeekron - Key question is stretching back out around 2-turns; the last time he did it, he aired last summer at Del Mar.

Long Shot - Ebony Light

Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Turkus Quercus - Dueled hard for the lead in first race off a 3-month hiatus; speed is starting to do better over Polytrack.

Mommy Jean - Logical chalk is adding blinkers on after a good try for this low class level; Mullins keeps grinding out wins.

Long Shot - After Curfew

Best Bet - Ooh Yeah (race 1)

Del Mar Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$21.40; Long Shots, 9/1/$6.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80

Del Mar Totals - 566/138/$979.80; Long Shots, 286/36/$465.20; Best Bets, 34/16/$67.60
