OAK TREE AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
High Speed Goldie - Claimed by Martin off a sharp NoCal win; like that Espinoza takes the call, lots of back class.
Zee Topper - Claimed by Knapp and spotted properly to win at first asking; will be coming from well off the pace.
Long Shot - Guest
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $18,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
Norway House - Reclaimed by Mullins which is a very strong trainer angle; he claimed for $25k, drops in for only $16k.
Plan For Fun - Dead late closer ran over the top of cheaper horses in last for the win; more consistent than many of these.
Long Shot - Polo Bender
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
Minister Blair - Been switching hands more often than a hot potatoe lately; reclaimed by Knapp, a very strong trainer angle.
Imitation - Soft favorite in a much more difficult race than it seems; tactical speed to sit off the speed, Ocean Grand.
Long Shot - Seeking Answers
Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Regal Dedemption - Hard to swallow 2/1 after she was 19/1 in last; she was much improved, a repeat race would win this.
Funky Chanteal - Had a tough time from a parking lot post in last; Jara was stuck 6-wide on the turn, no way to win a race.
Long Shot - Wildcat Girl
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
A.P. Double Cat - Drysdale filly got a nice education in her career debut; suspect she'll be wound a lot tighter for this.
Boston Cat - Logical chalk after being a twice beaten favorite at Saratoga; questions surround those from the Biancone barn.
Long Shot - Bel Air Sizzle
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $21,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
More Daylight - Was aggressively placed off the claim by Canani and did not run badly; Talamo takes over for the money shot.
General Bueno - Tepid chalk just missed last time in a similar condition; dead late closer will hope for some pace to chase.
Long Shot - Coyote Fast
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $45,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Excessive B and B - Tepid chalk in another difficult race on paper; first time down the hill, parking lot post will help.
Short Sentence - Dead late closer draws the dreaded rail on the hillside turf course; like the turn back in distance too.
Long Shot - Lightmyfirebaby
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Teacher's Rule - Showed good speed in a route, cuts back to 1-turn today; she could sit just off the early pacesetters.
Intimate Tales - Ran miserably as a beaten favorite off the claim by Monteleone; note that Espinoza remains loyal.
Long Shot - Getinthereontime
Best Bet - Regal Dedemption (race 4)
