TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Bid of Genius - Been away 2-months, she gets class relief for the Hollendorfer stable; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Early Anna - Second start off a 9-month hiatus; solid test drive in that she was very slow early, very fast late for Baze.
Long Shot - Moogie
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Richly Endowed - I leaned on a couple FTS because the ones with experience don't overwhelm me; Capestro-Potts are a good team.
Sandita - Faltered in last when hammered down to 2/1 odds; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming.
Long Shot - Cat Report
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $36,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Carrie's a Jewel - First start off the claim for Mitchell barn; mare is stretching out in distance and adding blinkers on.
Silber - Abrams horsing are running their butts off at Del Mar; he has a lot of grass horses that are taking to Polytrack.
Long Shot - Preciousness
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Rio Tricky - Did a classic pop and stop in career debut; suspect Mullins skipped a Hollywood return start to point for this.
Absolute Charge - NoCal shipper exiting a stakes race for this maiden claimer; he gets the biggest class relief in the field.
Long Shot - Polish Pete
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
Seven Nation Army - Mullins charge gets in off the also eligible list; parking lot post has not hurt in Polytrack sprints.
Manyouk - If the speed is holding up, it'll improve the chances for this speedball; his Cushion track race two back was good.
Long Shot - Buddyandrowdy
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Angel Craft - Has been heavily favored in all four career starts with one win to show for it; no question she has talent.
Silver Swallow - Gets big class relief exiting graded stakes races for this optional claimer; exits good Cushion track tries.
Long Shot - Intangaroo
Race 7 - 5 furlongs (turf), $85,000 Daisycutter Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Valid's Valid - Her last two races, if repeated, would top the charts for me in here; hot pace scenario flatters the closers.
Indian Breeze - Clever management for Kitchingman to earn black type at Lone Star; she can rate if placed in a fallback position.
Long Shot - Bully Bones
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Ace Appeal - Throw a dart and tell me who you like; Koriner charge is taking a steep class drop to face a moribund group.
Why Knot Us - Will be heavily favored due to the slow pace of his opponents; Spawr has had plenty of time to fine tune him.
Long Shot - Heyore
Best Bet - Angel Craft (race 6)
Del Mar Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$23.60; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.20
Del Mar Totals - 110/29/$193.60; Long Shots, 56/7/$68.40; Best Bets, 7/5/$23.60
