HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Royal Heraldry - Really woke up last time, a repeat of that effort would smash these to smithereens; Rosario is very underrated.

Heartstrings - Tepid chalk in a wide open six-pack; was flattered last time when Forest Miss came back to win next time out.

Long Shot - Flamingo Princess

Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Zee Topper - Slight edge in a weak looking group; Knapp claimed from Sherman, but spots her where she can repeat her last win.

Madera Royal - Chatlos stepped in to take her as she descended down the claiming ladder; she has back class to rebuild upon.

Long Shot - Neon Princess

Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

Mesa Magic - Speedball tactics have not worked real well this meet, but he could be lone speed; Spawr horses are running well.

Mob Rule - If the speed collapses, which it does a lot over Polytrack, he appears the best closer; Smith will sit chilly.

Long Shot - Si Chimi

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up

Owen Roe O'Neill - Like the fact he was claimed by the maestro, Hollendorfer; he runs fast enough to beat these everytime.

Slew Man Slew - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; Nakatani is one jock who handles the Polytrack.

Long Shot - Diamond Wager

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Hello Bolly - Slight edge goes to Mullins, again, in a wide open heat; he claimed this filly off a popular win, well spotted.

Tiz Next - Good turf debut last time when racing evenly into a quick pace; Smith should be able to carve out a decent trip.

Long Shot - Short Sentence

Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds

Luis's Especial - Slight edge in another difficult race to decipher; gets class relief from a minor stakes to this claimer.

Grits - Won two straight for Cerin, then was claimed by Saavedra; question is will this guy be able to maintain his form.

Long Shot - Saintly Son

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $68,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds

Augment - Taking a shot that he can win his turf debut facing a tough field; drawing confidence from good Cushion track races.

I'm All Out - Mitchell charge looked like a different horse switching to Cushion track; another who could transfer to grass.

Long Shot - Frank the Barber

Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Lauren C - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; has been bet hard every start, switch to Flores.

Dragon Rising - FTS from Ward who is renowned for cranking them up first time out; like that top rider Talamo takes the call.

Long Shot - Hi Lily Hi Lo

Best Bet - Owen Roe O'Neill (race 4)

Del Mar Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 13/3/$35.80; Long Shots, 8/1/$27.00; Best Bet, 0/0/$0

Del Mar Totals - 301/73/$488.80; Long Shots, 154/22/$259.20; Best Bets, 18/8/$36.60
