HORSE RACING
OAK TREE AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds
Dunmore – Sharp run last time off a 2-month sabbatical; gets the weight off with bugboy Quinonez, stays in similar class.
Fuji – Should be dead fit exiting grass route races up in NoCal; he could float in price due to low percentage connections.
Long Shot – Pay the Vig
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Bestatit – Mullins at a price is always a dangerous proposition; unknown rider will only add a lot more value to the odds.
Bench Wench – Logical chalk is taking a necessary drop in class to visit the winner’s circle; speed to get involved early.
Long Shot – Madonna Mia
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $28,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Categorize – Could be a Mullins double that actually pays something; just missed down the hill in last, can make amends.
La Swing – Won off the claim by young Stute; is dropped in class, but he has nothing to lose because she cost only $16k.
Long Shot – Light Fingers
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Exceeding – Drop down winner is not raised in class, but may have something left in the tank; tactical speed to sit a trip.
Ghosttrapper – Claimed by Sherman off a win for the Ward barn; one of the few Autrey horses to show some run off the claim.
Long Shot – Jealous Profit
Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Outra Rafaela – Gomez returns and I suspect he won’t miss a step; Frankel filly has been well bet, still has much upside.
Santa Teresita – Will be overlooked because Morgan Lane exited the same race; she offers value and could improve a lot too.
Long Shot – Awesome Feat
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Foxy Games – Back class filly won wire to wire down the hill this spring; turf rail out 8-feet has to help her somewhat.
Steelin’ – When you’ve won down the hill once, you can do it again; will need some pace to be able to do her best.
Long Shot – Themis Valentine
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Final Fling – Good looking FTS entry from the Mullins barn; exits a bullet work and you get two for the price of one.
Patricia’s Gem – Was bet thru the roof in debut, then never threatened to win; she figures to move forward some today.
Long Shot – A Flicker of Light
Race 8 – 1 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 Carleton F. Burke Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Atlando – Ran better than looked last time losing by only a length; appears to be rounding into form in a wide open race.
Spring House – Ground saving journey under top jockey Gomez; he’ll get the most out of him in the stretch run.
Long Shot – Porfido
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Milehighkisses – Speedball cut incredibly fast fractions down the hill in last; she could pop and not stop today.
Romanced – Logical chalk has the perfect stalking style chasing a solid early pace; may get way overbet with these.
Long Shot – Peaceful Dreams
Race 10 – 7 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 2-year-olds
Shakalaka – O’Neill is good at winning these kind of wide open races; showed improvement between first and second starts.
Mr. Excessive – Tepid chalk in an inscrutable race; has tons of early speed, may pop and find a no passing zone field.
Long Shot – Big Hit
Best Bet – Categorize (race 3)
Santa Anita Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 13/4/$28.00; Long Shots, 6/1/$12.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals – 423/92/$669.60; Long Shots, 210/32/$420.20; Best Bets, 25/6/$30.20
