HORSE RACING
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 3:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Berkeley Castle - Frankel charge making his second start off a 2-month hiatus; should be tighter and ready to step up today.
Senior - Part of a blanket finish last time that involved Berkeley Castle; Garcia has been riding the Polytrack much better.
Long Shot - Inclusive
Race 2 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $75,000, Optional claiming $100,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Double Trouble - Chance for a Frankel double, which still won't pay much; little by little, she's improving with each start.
Alexandra Rose - She didn't run badly in her U.S. debut considering the degree of difficulty; moves forward for Drysdale.
Long Shot - Clinet
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 2-year-olds
Comissioner Gordon - Got into trouble, early and often, last time; he has some talent and with a clean trip can upset these.
Bear Creek - Logical chalk from the white hot Miller barn; it's not just his babies that are winning, it's all his stock.
Long Shot - Rivergrade Boy
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, 2-year-olds
Coronas At Delmar - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Letsgobyebye - Claimed by Knapp off a good effort in last; like Rosario and the effort he's giving on his many long shots.
Long Shot - Absolute Courage
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
Easy Million - Claimed by Hess and spotted to win right away; he has a ton of back class, but hasn't won a race in 2007.
Swedish Radar - Beaten favorite stretching back out around 2-turns; he may not be much horse, but this isn't much of a field.
Long Shot - El Perfecto
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Tiz a Blend - Tepid chalk in a wide open race; he ran OK in his Polytrack debut last time, suspect there's more in the tank.
Charm N Broad - Tactical speed to sit a decent trip from a wide out post; like that Talamo remains loyal, he's the real deal.
Long Shot - Short Sentence
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $200,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Pussycat Doll - Ran miserably in last over Cushion track; she's a grade 1 filly and Baffert left her here for good reason.
Strong Faith - Mullins charge ran a career best over Cushion track in last; if she likes Polytrack, she can pull a big upset.
Long Shot - Red Diadem
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Fallen Leaf - Leap of faith that Miller magic can work on this second time starter; looked like he got a test drive in debut.
Catch That Thief - Can Headley break his maiden with his first synthetic track win?; adding blinkers on, expect more speed.
Long Shot - Bertrand At Mr A's
Best Bet - Berkeley Castle (race 1)
Del Mar Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$22.80; Long Shots, 8/2/$71.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.80
Del Mar Totals - 416/99/$713.40; Long Shots, 212/30/$398.60; Best Bets, 25/13/$56.60
