HORSE RACING
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
G. I. Betty - Sometimes a choice is made by a process of elimination; it's her turf debut, but she has run well going long.
Awesome Feat - Has regressed since a sparkling debut race; she is bred for a route of ground and may be grinding it out late.
Long Shot - Pride of Pegasus
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Ten Tenors - Claimed by Mullins who has had time to put two works into her; he's also adding blinkers on, a positive move.
Violet Brook - Dead late closer will hope the race falls apart in the lane; she'll be circling the field way on the outside.
Long Shot - Military Woman
Race 3 - 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Monterey Jazz - Ran flat last time upon exiting a sharp MSW turf sprint win; suspect he can rebound to that top effort.
Talkin to Mom Roo - Left a step slow in last, but was moving fastest at the end; suspect he will get way overbet tonight.
Long Shot - Indian Ashton
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Atzimba - Miller charge was bet down to favoritism in last, then didn't run a step; like that Baze remains, expect better.
Taulin - Like the turnback in distance where she figures to be running late, while the rest are stopping; offers value.
Long Shot - La Petra
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Engineered - One of the few Autrey starters at Del Mar to not get claimed; drops from $50k to $25k, he'll get claimed today.
Colonel Courtney - Claimed by Garcia who has had a sneaky good, under the radar meet; like that Talamo is taking the call.
Long Shot - Santa Fe
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $34,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Royal Heraldry - She has been a completely different animal since switching to Polytrack; explosive late rallies in last two.
Marqz Melody - Tepid chalk and actually a surprising morning line favorite to me; will save all the ground inside under Baze.
Long Shot - Warren's Adventure
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $64,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
So Long Sonoma - Headley finally has the duck out of his barn, where its been all summer long; bad beat loser last time out.
Kalookan Dancer - Speedy sort ran a courageous race up in NoCal; she figures to get overlooked today and offers some value.
Long Shot - Honky Tonk Baby
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Roadside Rest - Sise has a well earned reputation for improvement in the second career start; suspect will be a short price.
Richly Endowed - It looks like a negative rider switch to Potts, but he's the main man in the barn; will improve a lot.
Long Shot - Cee's the Answer
Best Bet - Ten Tenors (race 2)
Del Mar Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$17.80; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals - 499/118/$840.60; Long Shots, 251/32/$425.20; Best Bets, 30/14/$59.60
