HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time Noon

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Coast Guard - Sprinter stretching out is the most likely pacesetter in here; P Val is gone, so let's see who rides today.

Canyon Drive - Closed fast in debut sprint, stretching out 2-turns for the first time; Baffert babies improve with racing.

Long Shot - Medjool

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds

Cry Me No River - Claimed by West off a sharp win over similar foes; nice outside post to clock the speed and grind late.

Wings of Freedom - Speedball figures to have only one way of going; Hollendorfer drops him in class and hires Gomez.

Long Shot - Quick Enough

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $70,000, Optional claiming $125,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Double Trouble - Frankel filly figures to get a perfect trip under Bejarano; she has delivered less than promised of late.

Live Life - Gets big time class relief from the grade 1 Matriarch for this; Valdivia can probably rate her instead.

Long Shot - Shermeen

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 2-year-olds

Sing Me a Psalm - Favorite exits a sharp second facing similar, then was claimed by Sadler; tactical speed to sit a trip.

Maeken Noise - Speedball from Koriner gets a rider switch to the barn's main man Gryder; simple tactics of pop and go fast.

Long Shot - Johnny Be Bueno

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

Golden Royal - Claimed by Monteleone, expect some improvement today; like that Nakatani takes the call, square price too.

Trail Mix - Speedball was a determined winner last time out; takes a small, but significant, class drop hoping to repeat.

Long Shot - New Rule

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Rate of Exchange - With all the experienced starters looking slow, I'll try a couple FTS; has good win early pedigree.

Mega - FTS from the dangerous Pletcher barn he hires main man Gomez to ride; watch the tote board for additional clues.

Long Shot - Royal Humor

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, $125,000 California Breeders' Champion, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Spring Awakening - Logical chalk exits a sharp stakes win in Inglewood; Gomez remains loyal to Mitchell, take some beating.

Onebadkitty - Had a troubled trip in last in a race she should have won; offers good value for a highly regarded filly.

Long Shot - Cantina's Rose

Race 8 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), $75,000 Eddie Logan, 2-year-olds

Spinning Sound - Got a nice introduction to U.S. racing last time; Bejarano remains loyal, expect a much better run.

Ghetto - Well regarded colt makes his U.S. debut for Dollase; runs first time with Lasix, Michael Baze gets the call.

Long Shot - Robscarvic

Race 9 - 7 furlongs, $250,000 La Brea, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Sindy With an S - Draw a line thru the lousy race over bad Monmouth slop and her resume looks fine; quick talented filly.

Dawn After Dawn - Determined win off a 5-month sabbatical; she is battled tested in midwest graded stakes, don't overlook.

Long Shot - Look Deep

Race 10 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Almacita - Ran sluggishly last time and is capable of better; solid combo of Michael Baze and Mitchell, a lot to like.

Warren's Sillycat - Moves inside a few slots from parking lot post 13; grinder needs to be aggressively ridden.

Long Shot - Queens Boulevard

Best Bet - Sing Me a Psalm (race 4)

Santa Anita Friday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$32.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 32/6/$54.80; Long Shots, 17/4/$31.20; Best Bets, 2/0/$0
