October 4, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Pride of Pegasus - Was flattered when G.I.Betty won yesterday's feature; should be the controlling speed from the wide out.
Awesome Feat - Has regressed since a very good debut at Hollywood; stretching out for the first time on the main track.
Long Shot - Feel Free to Flee
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Netty's Knockout - Hard to knock her two race wins coming off a one year hiatus; top form makes her the one to beat, again.
Bridled Honey - Claimed by Monteleone from the clever Mitchell barn; key is the speedball may have some front end company.
Long Shot - Skip's Gal
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $47,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
D Pirates Marker - She ran some strong races at Hollywood over their Cushion track; Talamo will sit a trip and fire late.
Silver Swallow - Logical chalk has been burning money as a beaten favorite four straight times; another short price today.
Long Shot - Film Editor
Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
Native Success - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; like that Gallagher turns to main man Solis.
Street Number - The Mig and Spawr are forging a nice tandem together; like the turn back in distance, will be finishing fast.
Long Shot - Bigum
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Faulkwood Shores - With the turf rail out 24 feet, this course does favor the speed; Baze will try to bottom out the field.
Exceeding - Logical chalk has tactical speed to sit a perfect trip; taking an enormous class drop, maybe too big a drop.
Long Shot - Direct Connect
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Raise the River - Stretching out around 2-turns for the first time; ran superb in last, a maiden in a restricted stakes.
Harlene - Barn switch from Carava to O'Neill; is bred well enough to get 2-turns, could sit closer chasing a slower pace.
Long Shot - Easter Born
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Specialist Morgen J - Been away 4-months, but Mitchell can get them ready off the shelf; figures to be a closing sprinter.
Silver Stetson Man - Suspect he will be the shortest priced favorite on the card; still not convinced he's beaten anyone.
Long Shot - Turnbolt
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Another Event - Have to love the rider switch to solid veteran Gryder; gelding has shown ability in both his career starts.
I'm Bulletproof - Ran poorly off the claim by Carava, but suspect there's much more in the tank; can rebound for the Mig.
Long Shot - Hennessy's Hope
Best Bet - D Pirates Marker (race 3)
Santa Anita Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$17.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$11.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.80
Santa Anita Totals - 102/22/$152.80; Long Shots, 52/6/$51.40; Best Bets, 6/2/$10.20
