HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Laday Tale - Has the advantage of a good recent race while facing winners; best shot is to try and wire this field.
Sorcerers Spell - Been away 11-months but has a good resume to win today; O'Neill barn has been quiet so far this meet.
Long Shot - Tall Tonic
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Our Rafaela - Frankel takes the blinkers off, an seldom used move for him; Bejarano will get first call from this barn.
Foreign - Logical chalk with Gomez up, but I prefer the Frankel filly instead; Gomez will sit a trip and try them late.
Long Shot - Solid Brass Cat
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Midnighter - Like the way horses from the Conlon barn look and run; should be dead fit turning back from a grass marathon.
Politcal High - Hess adding blinkers on for parking lot post start; he too is exiting turf races where he will be fit.
Long Shot - Moonlit Habit
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Father Tim - For Gomez to ride this FTS for Hofmans, he must have been told it's green light time; watch the tote board.
Skimmetry - Like that Bejarano will give this Frankel colt his best chance to win; convinced he's better than he's shown.
Long Shot - Warren's Scooter
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf), $500,000 Matriarch, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Wait a While - No shame losing to Lahudood who then won the BC F&M Turf; her race two back is fast enough to crush these.
Precious Kitten - Speedy Frankel filly may be alone on the lead, always a dangerous tactic; draw a line thru her BC try.
Long Shot - Lady of Venice
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $62,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Fine Flyer - Mandella colt is bred to be any kind of animal; prepped last time in a sprint, bred to go long, run all day.
Monzante - Interesting move for Mitchell to convince Gomez to ride this German invader; runs first time with Lasix too.
Long Shot - Wise One
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $65,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Johnny Eves - Speedball got burned last time in a vicious speed duel; don't think anyone will want to duel with him today.
Specialist Morgen J - Dead late closer picks up the main man Gomez; Mitchell charge saves all the ground and fights late.
Long Shot - Hamoody
Race 8 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $500,000 Hollywood Derby, 3-year-olds
Twilight Meteor - Has lost three stakes photo finishes or you would have heard about him; part of the cavalry charge.
Nobiz Like Shobiz - Logical chalk makes his first foray to SoCal; he prefers firm ground and he will get that today.
Long Shot - Medici Code
Race 9 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
Forest Danz - Been away 7-months, but is taking an enormous class drop; from a live barn, tactical speed to sit a trip.
Semi Lost - Hess claims him off a win for Mullins; has a ton of back class where a repeat performance is very doable.
Long Shot - He's a Triehr
Race 10 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $54,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Must Be Joking - I'm picking all FTS in an open race; surprising how mainstays like Espinoza and Solis are struggling.
Afleet Ruler - None the starters with experience shows me anything; leap of faith that Gomez for Sadler means live runner.
Long Shot - Phantom Strike
Best Bet - Laday Tale (race 1)
Hollywood Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/6/$29.20; Long Shots, 10/2/$57.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.80
Hollywood Totals - 235/48/$299.00; Long Shots, 118/19/$264.60; Best Bets, 14/5/$18.60
