Hot Razorbacks top No. 7 Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Texas coach Rick Barnes can think of one way to improve the Big 12.

Just add Arkansas.

Michael Washington scored 22 points, including a driving dunk in the final minute, and the Razorbacks beat the seventh-ranked Longhorns 67-61 Tuesday night.

Arkansas (12-1) has won 10 straight games and beaten two top-10 teams from the Big 12, defeating then-No. 4 Oklahoma last week.

"I said coming up here -- this school should be in the Big 12. That's where they should be," Barnes said. "It would make our league better. It would be better for them. Why they're not, I can't answer that."

The Razorbacks led their former Southwest Conference rivals 62-61 when their play appeared to break down with the 6-foot-9-inch Washington holding the ball near the top of the key. But he beat his man off the dribble, had a clear path to the basket and was fouled as he dunked with 22.5 seconds to play. His free throw put Arkansas ahead by four.

Texas' A.J. Abrams then missed three straight shots at the other end, and Stefan Welsh added a breakaway layup to finish the scoring.

"I'm not going to sit here and tell you we're better than Texas, because I don't know if I believe that," Arkansas coach John Pelphrey said. "But we didn't have to be tonight."

Arkansas has won 10 in a row for the first time since 1995, the year after its NCAA championship.

Welsh scored 20 points for Arkansas. Damion James had 17 to lead Texas (11-3), which shot 1-of-14 on 3-pointers.

• No. 5 Connecticut 61, No. 25 West Virginia 55 -- At Morgantown, W.Va., Jeff Adrien scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, and the Huskies (13-1, 2-1 Big East) held off the Mountaineers (11-3, 1-1).

UConn coach Jim Calhoun moved ahead of Lefty Driesell into seventh on the NCAA career list with his 787th victory.

• No. 8 Michigan State 67, Ohio State 58 -- At East Lansing, Mich., Kalin Lucas scored 20 points to lead the Spartans (12-2, 3-0 Big Ten) over the Buckeyes (10-3, 1-2) for their eighth straight victory.

William Buford scored 17 for Ohio State, which has lost three of four since a 9-0 start.

• No. 12 Clemson 66, Alabama 59 -- At Clemson, S.C., Trevor Booker scored 19 points as the Tigers (15-0) held off the Crimson Tide (10-4), keeping pace with their 17-0 start of two years ago.

• Penn State 67, No. 14 Purdue 64 -- At State College, Pa., Talor Battle scored 21 points, and the Nittany Lions (13-3, 2-1 Big Ten) held the Boilermakers (11-4, 0-2) without a field goal for eight minutes in the second half.

Stanley Pringle added 18 for Penn State, which is off to its best start in 13 seasons.

Purdue was without two injured starters: forward Robbie Hummel (back) and guard Chris Kramer (sprained foot).

• No. 18 Villanova 89, Seton Hall 85 -- At Newark, N.J., Scottie Reynolds matched his career high with 40 points, and the Wildcats (13-3, 1-1 Big East) hit their last 18 free throws to gain an overtime win over the Pirates (9-6, 0-3).

Reynolds, who made 15 of 16 at the line, hit two free throws late in regulation to give Villanova a 76-73 lead. But Seton Hall's Jeremy Hazell banked in a tying shot from 26 feet.
