Heat forward Wright 'regrets' explicit photos

Miami forward Dorell Wright says he is "embarrassed" that explicit photos of himself have been posted on the Internet.

The photos were taken in a private video chat about a year ago, and appeared on Web sites and several Twitter accounts.

Wright issued an apology Monday, saying the matter "is something I truly regret."

Also: Eddy Curry will likely miss the rest of the season because of a right calf injury, apparently ending another lost year for the New York Knicks center.

The Knicks announced Monday that Curry has a torn myofascial band in the calf.

Curry has played in seven games this years and appeared in only 10 over the last two seasons.

Sacramento said swingman Dominic McGuire will miss the rest of the season with an injured right foot.

The team said tests show that McGuire has a torn right plantar fascia. He was hurt in Sunday's loss to Cleveland.

WNBA star Cappie Pondexter is headed to the New York Liberty as part of a major three-team trade.

League champion Phoenix will send the All-Star guard to New York for Shameka Christon and Cathrine Kraayeveld, who then will be shipped to Chicago for All-Star Candice Dupree.

Venus Williams avoids upset, tops Hantuchova

Venus Williams handcuffed Daniela Hantuchova with an unreturnable 121-mph serve on match point to advance to the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla.

Williams reeled off the final seven points of the match to win, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.

While Williams survived, top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova and defending champion Victoria Azarenka lost.

Former No. 1 Kim Clijsters won and will face No. Samantha Stosur. No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki will face Justin Henin.

Top-ranked Roger Federer endured some wobbly stretches before beating Florent Serra, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3). Federer lost serve three times and committed 35 unforced errors.

Ex-Cheyenne football coach, wife die in crash

George Perry, the first football head coach in Cheyenne High School's history, died Sunday night in a car crash in Cajon Pass, Calif., while heading south on I-15.

Perry's wife, Clara, also was killed. He was 58. She was 59.

George Perry opened Cheyenne's program in 1991 and coached there until 1999. He guided the Desert Shields to the 1995 Class 3A state title game, where they suffered their only loss of the season to Wooster.

"He was a very generous man and a very knowledgeable football coach," said Legacy coach David Snyder, who served as a defensive backs coach under Perry in the 1990s.

George Perry was athletic director this year at Garey High School in Pomona, Calif.

The Inland Valley (Calif.) Daily Bulletin reported that witnesses said the Perrys were in a 2001 Ford Explorer when the vehicle veered across lanes and flipped multiple times.

Also: The head of Ice Edge Holdings says his company remains on track to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes, despite widespread speculation that the acquisition is in trouble.

Chief executive officer Anthony LeBlanc also says the company has hired former Arizona attorney general Grant Woods to finalize a new lease deal with the city of Glendale.

A redshirt freshman football player at Tarleton State died after sustaining a head injury during spring practice.

Zach Shaver, 18, died at a Fort Worth, Texas, hospital, two days after he was injured at the Division II school in Stephenville.
