Tennessee AD condemns athletes' criminal activity
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said Monday his tolerance for athletes being involved in criminal activity "has gone to zero" after a second high-profile series of arrests in less than two months.
Senior forward Tyler Smith, junior point guard Melvin Goins, junior center Brian Williams and sophomore guard Cameron Tatum are suspended indefinitely after being arrested Friday on gun and drug charges.
In November, three freshmen football players were charged with attempted armed robbery. Two of them, wide receiver Nu'Keese Richardson and defensive back Mike Edwards, were dismissed.
"I think it's a really good time to do a gut check with our student-athletes and our coaches and our staff to make sure we're doing everything possible," Hamilton said.
Hamilton said he and other Tennessee officials might look at long-term changes to the athletic department's policies on drug usage and gun ownership.

Henin sweeps Petrova in official return to tennis
Justine Henin played as if she never left, beating second-seeded Nadia Petrova of Russia 7-5, 7-5 in the first round of the Brisbane International in Brisbane, Australia.
It was the former No. 1 player's first official tour match since announcing her comeback in September. She is preparing to make her Grand Slam return at the Australian Open, which starts Jan. 18.
Henin, 27, abruptly left the WTA Tour in May 2008 after spending a total of 117 weeks at No. 1, winning seven major championships, an Olympic gold medal and 41 WTA titles overall. Early today at the Brisbane International, Clijsters' comeback continued to gather momentum with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Australia's Alicia Molik .
