CALF INJURY EXPECTED TO SIDELINE HEAT'S WADE AT LEAST TWO GAMES

Miami Heat star guard Dwyane Wade is listed as day to day with a strained left calf.

Wade left the Heat's victory against the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday in the first quarter. There was tenderness but no swelling in the calf Thursday, and he was able to stand on his toes.

The injury is the type that can take two weeks or longer to heal, but a team spokesman said there is hope a return could come far sooner. Wade will almost certainly miss the final two games of Miami's four-game trip.

Also: The New Jersey Nets reached a deal with the state to move their home games for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons to Newark's Prudential Center until their arena is built in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Nets will pay a $4 million penalty over two years to get out of their lease at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, their home since 1981. They plan to move into the new arena for the 2012-13 season.

Forward Tristan Thompson and guard Cory Joseph of Findlay Prep will play in the Jordan Brand Classic, a basketball all-star game matching the nation's best high school seniors, on April 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Findlay Prep coach Mike Peck will be an assistant for the West team in the game, which will be televised live on ESPN2.

UCLA senior forward James Keefe will have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder next week. He started 13 games this season and averaged 2.2 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Israel's Peer advances to Dubai semis, will play Venus Williams

Shahar Peer of Israel advanced to the Dubai Championships semifinals in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a 7-5, 3-0 victory over Australian Open semifinalist Li Na, who retired because of back spasms.

Last year, Dubai organizers were fined $300,000 by the WTA for not allowing Peer to play in the event. She was denied a visa by the United Arab Emirates government, citing security concerns. She has been surrounded by security and played on the most secure court at the Aviation Club.

The unseeded Peer will face defending champion Venus Williams, who defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-3, 6-4.

Also: Scott Dysinger's two-run double keyed a four-run fifth inning that led top-ranked College of Southern Nevada to a 6-4 victory over No. 3 Chipola (Fla.) College at Morse Stadium.

Dysinger drove in three runs for the Coyotes (11-2). Trevor Kirk and Josh Demello each had two hits and scored two runs.

UNLV's Derek Ernst is second individually at 7-under 137, one shot behind Cal's Stephen Hale.

The UNLV softball team defeated Boise State 11-3 in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic at Eller Media Stadium. Outfielder Tara Bendt led the Rebels (5-1) with three RBIs.

Rajaan Bennett, a high school football star who had signed to play at Vanderbilt, was shot to death early Thursday by his mother's ex-boyfriend shortly after police arrived to investigate a report of a person with a weapon, Powder Springs, Ga., authorities said.

Bennett, 18, rushed for more than 1,800 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. He was rated among the state's top prospects.

Buffalo Bills starting right tackle Brad Butler announced his retirement. Butler, 26, was limited to two games in 2009 because of a serious knee injury. He started 31 games in his career.
