Stricker, Kelly pair up to post victory in Shark Shootout

Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly won Greg Norman's Shark Shootout on Sunday in Naples, Fla., closing with a 13-under 59 in the final-round scramble for a one-stroke victory over three teams.

Stricker eagled the par-5 17th hole -- hitting the second shot and the putt -- to give the longtime Madison, Wis., friends the lead.

Kenny Perry and J.B. Holmes, who had been in the lead most of the day, both missed birdie putts on No. 18 that would have forced a playoff.

Kelly and Stricker, who entered the round with a one-stroke lead, finished at 26-under 190 on the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort's Tiburon Golf Club course. They each earned $375,000 from the $3 million purse.

Perry and Holmes closed with a 59 to match the teams of former UNLV standout Chad Campbell and Tim Clark, and Justin Leonard and Scott Verplank at 191.

Also: Robert Allenby won the Australian PGA for the fourth time in his career and earned his second tournament title in two weeks, closing with a 5-under 66 to beat fellow Australians John Senden and Scott Strange by four strokes in Coolum, Australia.

Allenby, the Nedbank Challenge winner last week in South Africa, won the Australian PGA for the first time since 2005, when he swept all three tournaments in the so-called Australian Triple Crown -- the PGA, Open and Masters.

Spain's Pablo Martin became the first player to win on the European tour as an amateur and professional, closing with a 3-under 69 for a one-stroke victory in the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Nets' Douglas-Roberts has MRI on injured left knee

Coach Kiki Vandeweghe said the New Jersey Nets are awaiting results of an MRI on Chris Douglas-Roberts' left knee.

Vandeweghe wasn't sure how Douglas-Roberts, who scored seven points in 38 minutes of a 107-91 loss Friday at Indiana, was injured. Douglas-Roberts is averaging 16.2 points for the Nets, who are an NBA-worst 2-22.

Also: The New York Knicks signed free agent Jonathan Bender, marking the oft-injured forward's return to the NBA after a three-year absence.

The 7-foot Bender enjoyed his best season in 2001-02, when he averaged career highs of 7.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 78 games. But injuries forced Bender to miss 172 games over the next three seasons before chronic knee pain sidelined him indefinitely in February 2006.
