Lady Rebels' Smith nets Mountain West honor

UNLV's Jamie Smith was named Mountain West Conference women's basketball player of the week Monday after posting double-doubles in both games last week.

Smith, a 6-foot forward, had 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 97-92 overtime win at Sacramento State. Then, against No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday at Cox Pavilion, she had 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

Also: UNLV men's golfer Eddie Olson was 20th after two rounds of the College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. Olson was at even-par 142 in the event featuring the 32 All-Americans from last season.

Southern California forward Kasey Cunningham is expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament in his left knee. The junior starter also tore the meniscus in his knee during Saturday's loss to Loyola Marymount.

Four Oklahoma State runners finished in the top 25, leading the Cowboys to their second national championship in men's cross country. Liberty's Samuel Chelanga won the individual title, covering the 10-kilometer course in 28 minutes, 41.3 seconds in Terre Haute, Ind.

Soderling drops Nadal in ATP Finals opener

Rafael Nadal lost to Robin Soderling for the second straight time, falling 6-4, 6-4 in their Group B opening round-robin match at the ATP World Tour Finals. Earlier this year, Soderling handed the Spaniard his first loss on the French Open clay.

Novak Djokovic rallied from a poor start to beat Nikolay Davydenko 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 and move a step closer to the semifinals of the season-ending tournament for the top eight players in the world.

The second-ranked Nadal can still advance, but likely needs to win his two remaining group matches.

Suspect pleads not guilty of stalking ESPN reporter

An Illinois insurance executive accused of secretly making nude videos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews pleaded not guilty to interstate stalking.

Michael Barrett, 48, entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Barrett is suspected of finding three hotels where Andrews was staying last year. He rented an adjacent room, altered the peephole and shot videos of Andrews, authorities said.

Barrett is accused of uploading the videos to the Internet and trying to sell them to celebrity gossip site TMZ earlier this year. The charges were filed in Los Angeles because TMZ is based there.

Also: A former national Golden Gloves boxing champion died two days after collapsing following a bout in Philadelphia. Boxing promoter Dominic Pesoli said 25-year-old Francisco Rodriguez died Sunday night after losing a USBA super bantamweight bout against Teon Kennedy on Friday.

Germany restored the 1936 national high jump record to the woman who was stripped of the mark and banned from the Berlin Olympics by the Nazis because she was Jewish.

Germany's track and field association said the act of restoring Gretel Bergmann's record jump of 5 feet, 3 inches, "can in no way make up" for the past. But it called the decision an "act of justice."

The track group also requested the 95-year-old Bergmann be included in Germany's sports hall of fame. Bergmann emigrated in 1937 to the United States, where she still lives.
