Rockets guard Lee OK
after auto accident

Houston Rockets guard Courtney Lee said he wasn't injured when his car was struck by another vehicle after Saturday night's game against the New York Knicks.

Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said Sunday that Lee contacted a team security guard to tell him he was OK.

Lee tweeted about the incident, saying he was thanking God and "thanking Cadillac for air bags!! Without them, I could have lost my life tonight and two others close to me."

Lee scored 14 points in Houston's 97-84 win Saturday night.

Algorithms tops field
in Holy Bull Stakes

Algorithms capped a big day for trainer Todd Pletcher's speedy 3-year-olds at Gulfstream Park, winning the $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes.

Algorithms, ridden by Javier Castellano, pulled away to beat 2-year-old champion Hansen by five lengths, running a mile on the sloppy dirt track in 1 minute, 36.17 seconds.

Pletcher's Broadway's Alibi won the $200,000 Forward Gal for 3-year-old fillies, and his El Padrino took a $53,500 allowance race for 3-year-olds.

Fagan bowls to title
at USBC Masters event

Mike Fagan won the USBC Masters for his first major title, rallying to beat Chris Barnes 246-213 in the final at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center.

Fagan, from Dallas, overcame a 30-pin deficit to beat the top-seeded Barnes, from Double Oak, Texas.

Fagan advanced to the title match with a 228-180 victory over 2003 Masters champion Bryon Smith of Roseburg, Ore. In the opening match, Smith beat Canada's Dan MacLelland, 251-212.

Also: NASCAR Sprint Cup driver AJ Allmendinger earned his first major victory in almost six years by closing out the Rolex 24 at Daytona (Fla.) for Michael Shank Racing.

Allmendinger drove the final stint in the No. 60 Ford Riley, spending almost three hours behind the wheel at the end of the twice-around-the-clock endurance race. His team included IndyCar driver Justin Wilson, and Grand-Am regulars Ozz Negri Jr. and John Pew.

Liberty High School senior guard/defensive tackle P.J. Taeao made an oral commitment to Southern Utah's football program at the end of his official visit.

Taeao, a first-team all-state offensive lineman as a senior, said the Thunderbirds recruited him at defensive tackle. The 6-foot-2-inch, 300-pounder also had scholarship offers from Duquesne and Texas Southern.

In addition, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that Palo Verde outside linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams committed to Hawaii. Garcia-Williams, who had offers from UNLV and Southern Utah, could not be reached for comment.

The UNLV men's tennis team beat South Florida 4-2 in a consolation match at the ITA Kickoff in Los Angeles.

The Bulls won two of three doubles matches for the first point, but the Rebels rebounded by winning four of five completed singles matches. Rene Ruegamer paced UNLV with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Wael Kilani at No. 1 singles.

The College of Southern Nevada softball team lost two games in the CSN Kickoff Classic, 8-3 to Phoenix College and 7-1 to 11th-ranked Chattanooga State Community College at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park. The Coyotes fell to 4-3.

Former middleweight boxer Don Fullmer, who fought nine world champions in 79 matches and came within a fight of a world title himself, died at the age of 72 in West Jordan, Utah.

Fullmer died Saturday after suffering from lymphocytic leukemia for 15 years, his family told the Deseret News.

Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan scored two goals apiece, and the United States women's soccer team beat Canada 4-0 in the championship game of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia.
